It's been a hell of a week...and it's only Tuesday I decided to do something a little fun tonight while making dinner and picked up two beers I haven't had in a long time and doing a side by side:

Southern Tier 2XIPA - BB 11/15/21, 8.2%
Southern Tier IPA - BB 10/21/21, 7.0%

I haven't had an ST beer in a while and had forgotten that ST moved away from the bottled on date and to the best buy date. But I do remember a time when 2X was pretty sought after and was one of the cool DIPAs. Now? Easily obtainable and overlooked...

2XIPA pours lighter with a slight haze, a lot of carbonation and a nice head. Smell is nice, taste is hoppy, then sweet, then ends pretty dryly. A bit hoppier than I remember for some reason (DIPAS can almost be cloyingly sweet to me and by the end of the glass usually leaves me with that impression). Alcohol is well hidden. Old-school, and if you're looking for that this works well.

IPA pours darker, a little less carbonated but still has a nice head. Hoppy but a touch sweet too and ends nicely and pretty balanced. Oddly as this warms up I think that the alcohol may be slightly more detectable than in the 2X. This is good and I'm enjoying this quite a bit.

Winner: I may have to go with the IPA. It's simpler but yet still complex enough and a beer that I could drink more of. 2X is no slouch, though, and if you want a nice OS DIPA I recommend revisiting.
