I think that's why I enjoy shopping for beers as much as I enjoy drinking them sometimes. You pick something up that is overlooked by most and enjoy the heck out of it. La Vermontoise Saison is like that for me. I doubt hardly anyone that goes in the local bottle shop I find it in knows how great a Saison it is, but I can grab a bottle every few weeks and not have to worry about it disappearing too quick like the hottest local IPA.

Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Bells Lager of the Lakes (5.0%):
A Czech-style Pilsner from Michigan with flavors of light lemon, pale wheat, some airy and soggy grain flavors.
    versus
    2) Great Dane Pecks Pilsner (5.5%): A Czech-style Pilsner from Wisconsin with flavors of lemon citrus, buttery bread, and a full, smooth mouthfeel.

    3) Half Acre Cosmic Ranch (5.5% canned 6/23/22): A hazy pale ale from Illinois with Motueka, Mosaic Cryo & Centennial for flavors of lemon-lime, grapefruit & pine. Light and slightly tropical.
    versus
    4) Modist False Patterns (5.5% canned 3/28/22): A hazy pale ale from Minnesota with flavors of grapefruit citrus mixed with resinous nectarine, berries, and pine notes.
    versus
    5) Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue (5.8% canned 4/7/22): A hazy pale ale from Iowa with Citra for strong flavors of lemon citrus, flower, light mint. A creamy, soft, smooth finish.
(Mismatched 3 & 4 blind, otherwise the blind tastings were correctly identified)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Great Dane Pecks Pilsner
: This one drinks very respectably for a Czech-Pils. It has strong yeasty, bready, and buttery flavors with a formidable mouthfeel. Nice lemon citrus too. Bells does a lot of things well, but this one has never impressed me. Tasted like soggy grains today. Pecks Pilsner is worth trying however.

    5): Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue
: Wasn't ever really a fair comparison. This one has the lemon citrus rind, lemon flower, light mint and pine flavors. The smooth and soft drinkability really seals the deal. I haven't found a better hazy pale ale.

Literally a lawn mower beer. That might be the cleanest lawnmower I've ever seen.

Tynt Meadow English Trappist Ale - English strong ale - a lovely, warm comforting beer. Trying it in the DC area, I certainly hope it makes its way to Texas!

Lemon-Pepper chicken for dinner - really exceeded my expectations, was delicious. Drizzled with a little bit of chili oil and served with some roasted summer squash. Really enjoyed it.
