New thread started just in time. Catch up from yesterday, as I didn't get to post these. I was at another Inprint event in Houston (I mentioned these a while back). Which is a great program to meet authors and writers. Yesterday I got to see and meet Abdulrazak Gurnah at the wonderful Opera House in Rice University. He is the most recent recipient of the Nobel in Literature. His new novel was finally published in the US.

Before the even went over to one of my favorite dive bars, and favorite bars to just read and start a new book. Under The Volcano of coarse. First up Weihenstephaner Festbier.

After a few of those, Then steak night. With a Chimay White.

Then over to Rice for the Inprint event.

It was basically a sell out, once everyone filed in. It was a great event as always. Now back to work...might be back later today

Deep, dark brown body, appears opaque in the glass; thick, rocky and creamy khaki colored head, long lasting; nice patchy sheets of foam coat the glass. Very alluring aroma; sweet and spicy; black cherry and dark pitted dried fruit; touch of sweet chocolate. The taste amps up the smell components; licorice and cherries; excellent boozy undercurrent; cocoa powder; touch of phenol attributes. Heavy body; smooth and slippery; mild alcohol warmth.

I didn't look before opening, but this beast is 16% ABV. It hides it pretty well, all things considered. The can label states this is a mead barrel aged barleywine. It certainly exudes some unique taste and smell qualities. Perhaps this one wouldn't be for a lot of folks, but personally, I find this beer to be a wondrous creation.

Cleaning out the “cellar” (one of several wine chillers:grin:) to make room for my Tavour buys this summer…Cigar City’s “Brady Eaglin” The Night Hawk, BBA BW (Day 1 Release TBBW [March] 2020):

Bottled 2/14/20. Poured at 51°. Dull brown body with clarity under fast fizzy light tan head that quickly vanished leaving no cap retention, ring, nor lace; medium thick legs and a few spots of lace on swirl. Nose is caramel candy with a whiff of bourbon followed by fruity esters. Entry is sweet dark fruit - plums, cherries, figs; caramel malt sweetness holds the whole together; the hop bitterness I remember from 2 years ago has faded; bourbon in the finish. Medium light body, silky feel; light carbonation; warmth in mouth from 14% abv; alcohol bite on tip of tongue; thin for abv. Overall a BBA BW that has aged ok; not a lot of depth or layers; a very pleasant imbibe.

I have been dipping into the beers I stood in line for to have experienced the opportunity to buy 1 release beer on that day…COVID forever changed (I think) how we buy limited release beers. Posting my COVID (Spring 2020) gathered beers helps me move on…Cheers gang!

...just about pre-ordered it yesterday, but think I'll hold off until it's actually released...purely financial considerations (it could be done now, but why?)...an excellent price for 3-lps, too...

Gotta say, I'm definitely not a fan of this one.
    Still drinking it though.

IJbok. Seasonal bok beer from 'T IJ (Amsterdam).

Bok-season here is somewhat like pumpkin beer-season is in the US and Canada I believe. We have some pumpkins here, but no tradition making beer with it.
Making a pumpkin soup from an Italian pumpkin and some left over vegetables tonight.
    Cheers

Well, cleaning out my fridge some more today on my day off. I can't go too crazy, because I have to go to my friends place later today to again feed their cats, while they enjoy their honeymoon.

I did an aggressive pour here. Semi murky golden pour with a thick white head. There is some lacing as the head dissipates.
Aroma has a pleasing smoked malt aroma with a hint of lemon.
Smoke hits in a pleasing way here up front. Slight hint of lemon hits on the backside. It's a strange sounding combination, but it works.
The body is quite good. Not watery at all, and seems pretty thick for the low ABV.
It sounds strange, but this works so well.
