Hello to all, and happy Thursday!
Someone previously pointed out that this St Bernardus Abt 12 had a different and more traditional label, which I don’t really like.

Beer is just the same. Still as tasty and smooth as it ever was.

    Cheers!

Good Morning @Shanex and Beer Advocates around the globe. Starting off early today, Stouts are solid Breakfast options on my end. I pulled one from the cellar canned 3/6/20.

    Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narwhal

Full cellar review notes linked here. Long story short, like most BA stouts I am enjoying this, but also enjoyed the beer fresher, as you should not intentionally age stouts, IMO, unless there is a flavor profile you want mellowed / subdued over time. This beer drinks well when released, similar to most stouts brewed by top breweries.

Two from Paul Robeson to celebrate this Russian Imperial Stout!

[IMG] One more full day at the parks, the van will be pulling out tomorrow afternoon. Hitting some more BIG AND FAST COASTERS today. I actually just want a few beers, with all the fast riders the last few days I am know longer nervous with any. Unless it spins, I hate those rides. Cheers all.

[IMG] One more and it is underwhelming, but what can you do. Ice cold and far from terrible.

Stopped by The Griffon. Wasn't impressed with their tap list. Walked to Ottotto brewery, but contrary to Google's business hours, they were closed.

Headed back to Mizonokuchi Brewery for one more beer or two on my last night in Japan. Until whenever I come back, anyway.

Good day BAs! A crisp cool 56° walk with the dogs today, regular chores done, a cellar pull of sorts for me this morning as well - Utopias BA WW Stout:

Bottled 270 1 approximately 9/27/21. Poured at 54°. Caramel nose with boozy liqueur exhale. This stout definitely is improving for me as it ages - more Sherry barrel notes mute the overly bitter roasty WWS base…I’m looking forward to year two of aging!

Cooler temps mean I’m up in the garage/attic putting away Halloween Village boxes today. Cheers and have a thirsty Thursday y’all!

J and I disagree on aging BA stouts, as he and I have discussed in person previously. I believe many drink great fresh, and many, IMO, get better over time. I encourage aging beers for those who can, to see what does and doesn’t work for you. Cheers!

Picked up a hotel beer at Mizonokuchi Brewery. Yama-Bushi Saison One from Tamamura Honten. Quite nice. One of those "can't open it with the doorhandle...or the windowframe...the pen broke...ah, of course, the belt buckle" kind of situations.

I drank a West Coast Brewing - Starwatcher at Mizonokuchi.

Busy couple of days, turned 72 a couple weeks ago, recieved an e-mail from my sisters-in-law saying the gift was in the mail. Monday it arrived, Northern Brewers, starter kit. I'd rather drink it than make, but I did, yesterday. More on that later.

Backwoods Bastard is one of my all time favorite beers. French toast? What's not to like about that. French Toast with cinnamon, vanilla and bourbon barrel aged maple syrup is awesome. I wish I could say the same for French Toast Bastard, another added junk disaster. Glad I only bought one.

I believe I’m in the minority, at least in the Cellar Discussion on BA, in regards to my opinion that one should consider limiting intentionally aging beer to select bottle conditioned wild ales (Lambics, Gueuze).

I feel most stouts are better fresh, especially if hoppy, and the primary stouts which benefit from properly cellaring for an additional period of time are stouts folks don’t like fresh as released (barrel too hot/boozy, adjuncts too strong, unbalanced, etc.).

That said, I support everyone enjoying their beers at the time that best suits their palate preferences, and will continue to enjoy clearing my cellar over the next two Winters, because I have trouble enjoying these beers once the thermometer crosses the 69F line.

    Cheers Good Doctor!

PS - Happy Belated Birthday @ZebulonXZogg ! I am with you on preferring clean stouts (BA or non BA), with the exception of a select few coffee and coconut stouts.
