Finished off night float for several months. A little fire and Victory at Sea are just the ticket. Have a good week everyone!

Morning everyone! Unibroue Don De Dieu. This beer is poetic bliss. To even try to break it down into the tasting categories is to do it a disservice. Bravo! Bold, delicate and sweet like it must have been for Samuel Champlain landing after a long voyage at sea to discover the vast and perilous land of America. This beer is strong and beautiful. from deep in the bowels of the fridge, plucked an old Maredsous Triple, only a couple of years out of date.

A stout from the crafty division of Swedish macro brewery Spendrups. Smoked malt is evident on the taste and it's mostly an interplay between the smoke and the bitterness, the style is supposed to be an Irish dry stout, and the dry part is evident in the taste, there's no sweetness to pick up on, but this also most likely contributes to the rather thin body of the beer (it's 5% abv so the wort strenght is probably not too high to begin with, and they've obviously fermented much of the sugars). I like the smokiness and the strong bitterness, but it doesn't really strike me as a stout. Guinness Draught is similar in body, but lacks the smokiness of course, so stylewise I can see where it's coming from and I like it, though I was expecting a fuller mouthfeel.

I don't often buy this one since it's unfavorably priced compared to some other American craft beers over here, but whenever I do shell out the money for it I'm always pleased with my purchase.
