What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #3771

1) Eagle Park Arabella (8.5% canned 10/25/22): A NEIPA from Wisconsin with Citra hops for flavors of lemon citrus, oats, lemon creamsicle and floral notes. Creamy, silky, soft.
versus
2) BlackStack Side Hustle (8.4% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Idaho 7, Citra Cryo, El Dorado Cryo & Azacca Cryo for flavors of tropical pineapple, sweet navel orange, some melon and faint flower. Heavy, juicy, sweet. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Winner:
1) Eagle Park Arabella: Side Hustle is one of the better NEIPAs from BlackStack recently. Tons of juicy mango, pineapple, and ripe orange citrus. Spot on for all around juiciness. I think Arabella gets the win though. A bit older, but this was one of my favorite ones from the fall. Rich lemon citrus, oats, and creamsicle. Incredibly soft, smooth and creamy. Thick, rich, and creamy, but not too sweet either. Holds up even at this age too. Last one of these and sad to see it go.

 

Decided on a slight detour on the way home from work this rainy day.


Starting with a Belgian Pale ale that runs less bitter than I’d hope, but is still a decent Belgian style beer. Sidecar is a sweet golden ale with almond, and sweet is the operative word. But it’s also sort of tasty with the almond coming through and a nice dessert alternative to the darker pastry beers.

Just poured a half glass of barrel aged stout to warm as I finish the pale beers, and a quick sip shows nice barrel presence but also an indication that the lean will stay to the sweeter side.

@beergoot (and @The_Kriek_Freak) - I’ve mentioned it before that I found that Focal held up better than Heady with a little age. My preference flipped somewhere around 6 weeks the last time I had both available. Wonder if you find anything similar with these or other close cousins.

Had my two at the Boat now home safely with a Hazy Little Thing.....82 degrees and nice, but the spring pollen is showing up.....

 

That's more like it, as far as amber lagers go. Sweetness like Boont from Anderson Valley, but it still has a wee hop bite at the end.

Cutting straight to the real stuff today as the week nears its end. Last of my Ex Novo Capybara.
Good stuff - didn't impress at first, but giving each one of these days of space in between helped me appreciate how it 'aged' in the can and rounded out. Found it a little coarse, rough, at first - maybe just green - but now? Delightful west coaster with about 6 weeks on it.

Went for a nice if snowy run this morning in 8F but without the wind, it was doable. Great sunrise over Tava [Pikes Peak (sic)] is always a nice greeting to the day.
