1) Old Nation Boss Tweed (9.3% canned 1/26/23): A NEIPA from Michigan with Calypso, Simcoe, Citra and Amarillo flavors of grapefruit, orange, grapefruit juice and pineapple. Floral. Heavy but somewhat clean.
versus
2) Toppling Goliath Seismic Sue (9.8% canned 3/17/23): A NEIPA from Iowa with Citra for flavors of sweet orange, tangerine, melon, and sweet apricot. Heavy and sweet.

Winner:
1) Old Nation Boss Tweed: No hiding I am not a fan of imperial IPAs. Usually a boozy mess, but both of these have great reputations so a purchase and therefore battle was worthy. Boss Tweed has a higher rating, but Seismic Sue is Toppling Goliath fresh off the block. In the end I completely misidentified these two blindly. Seismic Sue goes the full nine yards. Heavy, sweet, with apricot flavors. I thought that maybe finding a World-Class 10% IPA when fresh would change my mind about imperials, but nope. A sweet mess, not their best work.
Boss Tweed actually drinks extremely nicely. Lots of grapefruit and floral notes yet somewhat somewhat clean and dryer than expected. 9.2%, but drinks more like the 8% range. This may be an exception to the rule.

 

Up next on this crazy day.

 

Pretty stormy start to the day, then some decent weather for walking and $2 beer Tuesday, before another round of storms tonight. Walked through a cemetery a town over where the John Deere family is buried, plus Charles Dickens 3rd son is also buried there. Photos are from earlier. Three Floyds Gumballhead and Toppling Goliath Pseudosue were the beers of choice today.

 

Well, we're also getting some freezing rain. I'd rather it be all snow, because I hate freezing rain beyond words.

 

Right along here ba. Unknown seas and savage lands, hazy dipa, collabo with Destination unknown/ noble savage brewing here on the island. Hops are a bit muted but mostly hit upfront. Decent fruit notes that hit a touch on the sweet side- I mostly get pear. Definite off flavors on the finish. This is just pretty meh drinking. Single can purchase for a good note.

The weather is too nice for a fire pit but not for a beer.

 

Out driving with my grandson who just got his Learner's Permit. We stopped at Spotted Dog so I could drink a Corruption Imperial Wheat.

 

I love wandering through old graveyards. I took this picture of a grave stone and didn't realize until later, but there's a ghostly specter - maybe you can't see it, but I see it immediately.

 

Took the last 48+ hours off as a cleanse…on the back patio with dogs, drinking a cold Two Hearted:



I washed and waxed Mrs. Zombie’s car, and vacuumed its interior, then wiped the car down inside and out. It’s 84° and sunny, the humidity makes the “feels like” 88°…the heat/sun has me done in…I won’t spend much more time outside. Cheers y’all!
