    1) Giesenbrau Dozinky Pils (4.7%): A Czech Pilsner from Minnesota with flavors of lightly tart lemon and yeast. Pale bread malts. Tart and dry.
    versus
    2) Bauhaus Wonderstuff (5.4%): A Czech Pilsner from Minnesota that smooth lemon, bready and salty flavors. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    2) Bahaus Wonderstuff
: Minnesota Czech Pils Battle. First go at Giesenbrau has shown they can make some good German beers. Always excited to find a new Czech Pils. It seems like the style can be hit or miss and this was a miss. It has some tart, lightly sour notes, likely an off-flavor form the yeast. Not quite right.
Bahus Wonderstuff is a go-to Czech Pils for me. Perfectly lemony, bready, and smooth. Wonderful.

Rain is coming. While it is still perfect outside, this is an excellent selection.

The GF and I are revisiting early 80s Billboard top 100 songs (I mean visiting again, not that we lived through it; we’re too young, like, for sure).

Good Saturday afternoon, BAs. We’re in Gardiner, NY to photograph family gravestones. I’m working on a new line of my Mom’s family. Now cooling off at Yard Owl Brewing which only brews Saisons and other Belgian styles. I’m starting with Saison Dechaunac. It’s dry, earthy, and musty. Good stuff. Cheers from the Mid-Hudson Valley!

Wild Blue Yonder Brewing Co. -- Angel of Darkness (Cellar Reserve)
Blend of 25% barleywine aged in maple bourbon barrel & 75% port finished bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout
ABV: 13.0%; pouring temperature: 50.7 ℉; bottling info: 19 CASES PRODUCED FEBRUARY 2022

    4.5/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

The beer is phenomenal! It is a blend of barleywine and imperial stout with some finesse with the barrel aging of the two different beers. There is no mention of adjuncts used with either source beer, so this one oozes taste and warmth and is a testament to great beer brewing and barrel aging skills.

Had to go with the Rabid Tannhauser porter to follow up the Lycan pilsner.

Nice stuff. More cocoa than coffee bean roast, so that is always appreciated, but not too roasty either way.

So I can't play an opera tune without playing Aretha. Nessun Dorma is from Turandot, and not Tannhauser, and is Puccini, and not Wagner...however...she kills it and you'll feel better for having heard it.

Good afternoon BAs! On the road since 9am CST. Day 43 of the journey, brewery number 49 - Iowa Brewing Co., trying left to right, Surf Zombies WCIPA, Only In Iowa IPA, Oja Baltic Porter, and Spicoli TIPA:

All of the beers are pleasant, nothing off, but all are watery. The TIPA (9.5%) is the only one of the 4 that has flavor and a malt backbone, and it is an easy drinking pounder, so I’m drinking a full pour before getting on the highway…

More miles to go today…I hope to be back later today. Cheers from Cedar Rapids IA!

    1) Phase 3 DDH Illo (7.7% canned 4/7/23): A DDH NEIPA from Chicago with flavors of Amarillo for flavors of earthy and dank tangerines with a hint of pine, spice, and smoke.
    versus
    2) Phase 3 DDH Double Pixel Density (8.0% canned 4/14/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with DDH Citra cryo for flavors of orange citrus, juicy pineapple, and tropical melon. Juicy and bright. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
2): Phase 3 DDH Double Pixel Density
: Phase 3 Haze Battle. You know it's going to be good. Amarillo vs. Citra hops. First try at Illo. Nails the Amarillo flavor. Tangerine with a bit of earthy, resinous, and dank tones. Almost smokey or spicy. Coming across like grilled tangerines with a spicey and piney quality. Great name from a hop as it almost has flavor notes from the Southwest.
Pixel Density is top tier haze. Complex and robust Citra hop flavors. More juicy and smooth. Cool comparison within a brewery between two similar hops. Trains the palate to appreciate the differences of each. I prefer the Citra hop to Amarillo, so Pixel Density gets the win here.
