Torpedo after washing the green monster in the 88 feels like 95 heat. Clouds blew out so bright blue sky with a hot breeze.

Good afternoon, advocates. Having a Swam's from Pizza Port while I reflect on the fact that the can design changed. I had this beer years ago w/ the OG can, but I only now just realized that they updated it. The more you know. Cheers!!!

Tom, I haven’t made it to Raleigh Beer Garden yet. I toyed with going to Funguys in Raleigh today but opted for the two breweries in Cary. I’ll be downeast tomorrow (dry counties) but I’ll try to stop at Deep River Brewing tomorrow on the trip back to the Triangle. My family’s roots are in NC and our son and daughter-in-law live in Chapel Hill so I’m down here frequently (and most definitely more when I retire). Cheers!

It’s on the outskirts of downtown, the old original Resurgence brewing location, near Rich Products.

    1) Imprint Brewing Sunkissed (7.2% no canning date): A TDH NEIPA from Pennsylvania with Citra, Mosaic, and Nelson for flavors of vinous white grapes, grapefruit, berry medley, and tropical pineapple.
    versus
    2) The Veil Strangest Eternity (8.0% canned 8/15/23): A TDH NEIPA from Virginia with Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe, and Motueka for flavors of of dank orange, nectarine, and pine. Resinous. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    1) Imprint Brewing Sunkissed:
East-Coast Virginia vs Pensylvania in a Tripple dry-hopped NEIPA Battle. The Veil has been distributing quite a few NEIPAs around here. Some have been better than others. This one had high hopes with the hop profile, but drinks too resinous and sweet, with west-coast IPA flavors from the Simcoe. Imprint Released Sunkissed earlier this summer, no canning date and forgot I stashed a few. Great hop combo. It was one of the best NEIPAs I could remember when fresh. Sure it's older and has deteriorated a bit with some age, but still drinking quite well. Imprint Brewing and this beer specifically were impressive.

Cool. I lived maybe a mile from there as the canoe paddles across the Niagara in Fort Erie.

I just learned that South Line Brewing Co., located adjacent to Vicious Fishes Beer Co., is opening today! So I have to try a beer - even if I can’t post the review immediately. So see below.

They need a little sound baffling on the ceilings, but otherwise, it’s a decent joint.

...I breathed a sigh of relief today as I was able to salvage yesterday's home-smoked pork shoulder for this Sunday's 'Mostly Annual Echo Lane Chili Cook-Off' - a mostly-annual event Mrs. BG and I have hosted over the past 15 years or so...I won't bore you with details other than to say I was hoping to use a lot of home-grown tomatillos, chili peppers, and some neighbor provided garlic plus my own mesquite smoked pork shoulder for a chili verde dish (won 2nd place a few years back - this was supposed to be the new and improved version - still might be)...anyway, some creative post-cooking techniques may have saved the day...a winner chili dish...???...who knows (until the Sunday judging), but the homegrown aspect has survived...will use some more of Mrs. BG's homegrown cilantro and add some black beans, too...gonna give the base chili about 36 hours to meld the current flavors...

Made an Asian-inspired stir fry from scratch (except the noodles, because I had neither the time nor inclination to try that for the first time). Freaking success. I'm going to give 75% of the credit to the Sip of Sunshine ...

... and the other 25% credit to my wife, my most important taste-tester.

Fake steak tips to keep this accessible for our resident vegetarian. Verdict: not quite steak, but in a context like this, close enough.

    Cheers, and horns up!
