Harvey's Christmas Ale English Barleywine, 7.5% - $2 on clearance! Cheers!



-Look: Gorgeous dark mahogany with a creamy tan head that stays.
-Aroma: Fig, toffee, vanilla, and walnut cake - nice!
-Taste: Dark fruits, caramel, walnut cake, mild alcohol.
-Feel: Smooth and round, full and soft, warming.
-Overall: Tasty sipper with a wonderful soft dark fruit and nut character!

 

Slow day here at the VB I see.

Hit the farmers market to grab some salmon for the wife and some fresh produce. Found some beautiful fresh Thai chiles, @LarryV I couldn’t resist!



I tested one on the way home… so cooling off with Tropicalia before I take the dogs on a walk, it’s a beautiful 70° fall day.

Another Trop will probably be coming with me as well…

Right along here ba. This is konig der knusprigkeit, festbier, sand city / marlowe collabo. Decent but nothing great. Come off tea like. No canning date but fresh given the style.

 

...great song. contains one of my fave pop lyrics, 'some people call it a one night stand, but we can call it paradise'.

I need to get my hands on some notch beers looks like they don't distribute south of new england. Schilling posted today on facebook they are releasing a foeder lagered karluv 13.

 

Think I go on a tear today with the classic old Oktos. Picked up some more.

1) Paulaner Oktoberfest Wiesn (6.0%): A German Festbier with flavors of pale malt, toasted bread, grains, yeast. Crisp and carbonated.
versus
2) Hofbräuhaus Freising Festbier (6.1%): A German Festbier with flavors of earthy Munich malt, bread malt, and yeast. Leans dry. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
2) Hofbrauhaus Freising: German Festbier Battle. Have had both of these and they are excellent. Paulaner is pretty much the gold standard here. Balanced, rounded, toasty, and mildly sweet.
Hofbrauhaus is a little less known. It has a distinct earthy and grassy Munich malt flavor. A little heavier, but yet dry. The flavors here are nothing less than authentic and the earthy/grassy Munich flavors here accentuate it well.

 

Ironically @ZebulonXZogg did not get into the IS/Barleywine BIF #1. I don't know if i should curse "Zebulon/Brewing" for getting me into trading or to thank him/them!

Onto round 2 for today as i enjoyed a pint of Green Man Porter while having lunch with Da Boss. This BAI Milk Stout is from Deep River in Clayton, NC. I am surprised at how well the brewing team managed the sweetness level as the coffee and barrel is able to nicely balance out the huge malt base, lactose, and chocolate. Nice brew!
