Unusual for me, maybe, but having a slightly aged (*cough*) Schilling Modernism, after a 6 mile easy run with strides. What a great beer... really holds up.

Because... Boxing Day? Let's go with that.

Happy Day After / Boxing Day BA's

My daughter and sil left this morning after a great 3 night stay here at my place....great food and beer and convo.....love it!

Did a hike after they left - now enjoying this big stout with a slice of pizza for lunch....yum!

PS: not bad at all, not my style, I am more into blondes. But I find this better than St. Bernardus, which is not bad, but being a bit overrated because of being very available in the US.

Big Sky - Powder Hound IPA

Purchased from the dabc for about $2.75

Poured at fridge temp into a fake Pretentious glass

Pours a orange hued gold with a large and loose frothy eggshell colored head. Intricate lacing and nice head retention. 4

Moderate piney and citrus rind hops. Some orange and tangerine sweetness on the back end. 3.75

Really balanced malt and citrus hops. Semi-sweet citrus juice, grapefruit, and gentle pine. It's not overwhelming and quite tasty to me. 4

Body is fairly light, average carbo that fades over time. Some lingering hop oils and touch of a dry finish. 3.75

Overall a nice better than average IPA that doesn't overdo the piney and resin flavors and well incorporates a balanced malt to pine ratio with pleasant semi-sweet citrus. I'll buy it again, good price for a good IPA. 4

 

Let us put it on a test:


Ok St Bernardus wins on mouthfeel and head. But tastewise, close call. It is very close, almost identical. ST. B is 10% and Carolus is only 8,5abv, so you can drink more :-).
But I have to be honest, against my expectations ST B beats the Carolus Classic,
Will tell you more soon about the stronger Carolus.
