    1) Sierra Nevada Narwhal (10.2% canned 10/2023): An Russian Imperial Stout from California with flavors of espresso, baker’s cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted grain, and a hint of smoke and pine.
    versus
    2) Stone Imperial Stout (10.6% canned 10/2022): A Russian Imperial Stout from California with flavors of dark chocolate, dark fruit, dark coffee. Hints of smooth dark fruit and vanilla. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    1) Sierra Nevada Narwhal:
California Russian Imperial Stout Battle. First up is Sierra Nevada Narwhal. It's roasty, earthy, with pine notes. Hint of smokey notes which provides a nice balance.
Next is Stone Imperial Stout. Wish I could have found them similar age, but this is a year older. Can easily tell on the flavor. Far less bitterness with more smooth dark fruit and vanilla sweet undertones. I think it was far more bitter when fresh.
As much as I like aging stouts, I do appreciate the bitterness of Russian Imperials. Stone sort of lost that here with being one year older. So tonight I prefer The Narwhal, but I admit, it wasn't a completely fair beer battle.

Out on deck, enjoying a cigar for the first time in months. Also a beer and the company of a friend of the GF’s.

Skewered vanilla porter from Alewerks called Caribou Clarinet. It’s a slightly sweet stout with a hint of spice. Reminds me a little of Hardywood’s GBS - didn’t really look if there were also spices.

Nice! Haven’t seen Grace for ages. Their crushed pepper sauce is one of my favorites.

Beer number three from the Santa beer box.

I know I have posted what follows every January 26th for the last five years but I am going to bore you yet again anyway. Oldest daughter’s birthday is today. What makes it interesting is that it is also her husband’s birthday. And the part you will not believe is that is also their daughter’s birthday. Three birthdays today. Statistics tell us the odds are?

More beer fridge cleanup this evening, I need to do this more often because I usually find some little gems like this one. I visited the brewery late last summer and picked up this variant of their most popular beer. It’s still drinking very well, especially if you like peanut butter.

    Guilty as charged, your honor.
