    Good Morning BA!

Done with my 12 hour shift and trying to warm up. It's currently -6 outside. I don't even want to know what the wind chill is. I know we are looking at -25 to -35 in a couple days.

I had this a couple of weeks ago hoping it be as good as Thirsty Dog's Wulver and I wasn't that impressed. I had it last night and was completely blown away by it and think for the huge price difference between the two this is a big winner really loved it last night.

    Good morning!

First bottle I've had all to myself (I've had it a few times at tastings before). Layers of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla followed by a nice mild lingering chile burn. Dangerously drinkable at 13% ABV.

    Love King Titus!

OK, so I have a brief story to go with my lunch beer. I've had a love-hate relationship with beer the past few days: did a tasting on Friday, took Saturday off (from beer), and then WAY overdid it on Sunday. Accordingly, I took Monday off, as well (not a big fan of hair of the dog remedies, especially during the week). Today, then, marks my re-introduction to the world of responsible beer drinking after what seems like a bipolar couple of days.

I poured myself a local IPA from Backeast Brewing: Misty Mountain. I've had this from the can once, and I thought it was OK but unremarkable (I rated it a 3.25, which is well below average, but whatever). I figured I'd pour this one into a glass and do a full review.

Cracking the can, I got a strong whiff of malt and yeast; more like an AAL smell than a normal IPA. Some hops, definitely, but not what I remembered. Pouring into a glass revealed why: this beer was filthy! I don't know if it was just a ton of yeast, or hop sediment, or what - I know it's an unfiltered IPA, but I've never seen the like. The closest I can relate is Rochefort 10, which is obviously a hugely different beer style.

I was intensely grossed out by this; again, I can't stress how normal this did NOT look. (If you've had floaties in your Heady Topper, it did NOT look like this.) I can only guess that it was a ridiculous amount of yeast, which contributed to the slightly odd smell. I couldn't even taste it without triggering my gag reflex; lamentably, whatever bacteria inhabit my sink were the only things to enjoy that beer.

(Addendum: none of the full reviews mention anything of the sort.)

So, long story short.....I'm drinking a Founders Centennial IPA.

    Cheers!

Atlantic Ellen's Coffee Stout, a milk stout brewed with coffee and vanilla. I'm pretty excited about this one as I've become a big fan of coffee stouts over the past year, and there aren't a great number of Maine brewed stouts that aren't Irish Dry Stouts.

Trust me, fresh Jai Alai tastes just as good in the winter as it does in the summer.
