    Forager Honey Rye

Light golden color with small white cap.

Aroma of sweet malt and dry rye bread.

Taste is more a sensation of sweetness rather than actual sweetness. There is a full richness to the malt flavor with a rye edge that seems both dry and spicy yet the overall effect is sweet. Brewer's website doesn't disclose any percentages of Rye or honey but both flavors are present. Hops play a small role here but the emphasis here is on honey and grain.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

This is an interesting beer. It looks good, tastes good and provides something a bit different in the sea of IPAs that populate our retail shelves.

Light golden color with good white cap.

Aroma of mild grain and something slightly tartly sweet like ripe peach.

Taste is simple and clear. A little less than medium strength with sweet grain and those ripe citrus notes. Little hop presence that I could detect.

    Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Good tasting brew that's not remarkable but is suitable.

    1) Luce Line Piedmont (5.1%): A Czech Pils from Minnesota with flavors of pale malts, bread malts, a bitter yeast. Clean
    versus
    2) Venn Pils (5.6%): A Czech Pils from Minnesota with flavors of German Pilsner malt, bread, some lemon hop flavors with a dry yeast. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    1) Luce Line Piedmont
: Czech Pils Battle from The Cities. First is Luce Line Piedmont. Nails all the attributes. Pale malts and bread. Yeasty and bitter. Clean. Very complex and one of the better ones I've had.
Next is Venn Pils. Pours identical. Similar aromas and flavors. Slightly larger body with more sweet lemon citrus. Very similar otherwise. Both are excellent. A close battle with Luce Line getting the slight win.

Enjoying a local favorite again: Sherpa's Secret from Bankhead Brewing in Rowlett. A very sessionable rice lager, the Basmati really comes through. Super refreshing in mid-spring around North Texas.

    1) Hop Butcher Treez Freez (8.0% canned 1/3/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Pacific Sunrise, and Mosaic for flavors of orange citrus, berries, and sweet grape. Hints of pine.
    versus
    2) Hop Butcher Lord Octopus (7.5% canned 1/30/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Mosaic for flavors of tropical berries, blueberries, cotton candy, light grassy, floral tones. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Happy Hump day and time for another fun Hop Butcher IPA Battle. First is Treez Freez. This is actually quite a fantastic hop combination. Citra, Mosaic with the addition of Pacific Sunrise. Balances orange citrus plus the Mosaic blueberry notes excellently. Sort of fading on the flavor now at almost four months out, but I can still appreciate how the hop flavors meld in here.
Next is Lord Octopus. Pure Mosaic. I thought this would be a fun battle because they drink quite similar and sure enough. This is very similar. As expected slightly less of the citrus notes, but leans more on that tropical blueberry flavor.
Treez Freez is aging a bit so more of a muted flavor profile. Pure Mosaic is good, but overall that Citra, Mosaic, Pacific Sunrise hop combination is still superb. Winner: Treez Freez
