    Thank God it's Friday!

The week is done and the beers are cold and begging to meet a nice young glass. Who am I to deny the forces of nature?

Tonight's beer is Steps Stout from Bells Beach Brewing, which is located up the road from me in Torquay, and named after the break where the RipCurl Easter Pro surfing competition is held. It's a beautiful part of the world and as good a spot as any for the name of a beer!

    Cheers!

Link to the Russian Imperial Stout tasting going on through Monday. Really hope you can join us over the next four days to join the conversation and perhaps a stout or two.

Bottom line, this is one of the best Russian Imperial Stouts available. Always consistently great. Many of you have enjoyed this in the past. For those who haven't, please consider trying a bottle or draft pour.

I'll return here in the evening to join in on the New Beer Weekend fun!

I don't play Ted Nugent often, but this selection goes out to @Victory_Sabre1973 who IIRC is a Ted Nugent fan to commemorate the first rock song played on WKRP by Doctor Johnny Fever, after Andy Travis changed the musical format.

Amber gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of sweet malt and sharp, bitter hops.

Taste is evenly split between malt sweetness and hop bitterness. I get malt up front quickly followed by sharp, bitter piney hops. If things were dialed back a bit this would be a better balanced/tasting brew.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

A well crafted concept but the results fall a bit short of the mark.

    Good morning Advocates,
I will take up some space today, here are some rare beers tasted for an event in a pub with a beer shop which for the occasion served by the glass for the first time here in Rome.
These are spontaneous Australian fermentations, in particular from the New South Wales region.

WildFlowers Brewing & Blending (New South Wales, AUS) - GOLD (Blend #39) - Wild Ale (5%).
My journey began with what was presented to me as their "basic version" of Australian Wild Ale, which after obtaining various awards saw the addition of other different ingredients to this which is the "original recipe".
On the label: "Blend #39 - Bottled in June 2022 - Best before: June 2025".
It appears golden, with minimal foam that disappears quickly (like a lambic).
On the nose there are immediately floral notes (of petals), slightly sweet (of nectar) and also a light bacterial note.
As soon as I tasted it, a beer immediately appeared in my mind: Cantillon's MAMOUCHE. In addition to the strong similarity that I found in the structure of the beer (body, carbonation, density on which the beer flows), precisely on a taste level it reminded me very closely. Floral, slightly herbaceous with an acidic note which is different from that of Bretta and which recalls more of a woody/funky astringency but which makes drinking valuable by cleansing the tongue and leaving the delicate floral taste on the palate.
I liked it a lot, before moving on to its "sister" Amber, I did a second round (with the 0.20 cl glass).

WildFlowers Brewing & Blending (New South Wales, AUS) - GOLD (Blend #39) - Wild Ale (6%).

The second one I tasted is the "Amber" version, i.e. with dark, lightly toasted malts.
On the label: "Blend #39 - Bottled in February 2023 - Best before: February 2027".
It has a brown color and a scent that mixes floral scents with more roasted and honey-like ones.
In the mouth the structure of the beer is always the same but the taste differs greatly from the basic version: the malty taste is very present and I don't know how well it integrates with the floral and delicately fruity one of the elements that only have space on the finish, leaving a sensation almost reminiscent of candied fruit.
Even the acidic note is greatly sweetened by these soft malts which, with their light toasted taste, round out all those rough edges which would also be pleasant to find in a wild ale.
For my personal taste, too sweetened in its "wild" aspects.

WildFlowers Brewing & Blending (New South Wales, AUS) - HIVE (Blend #5) - Wild Ale (7%).

The last of the beers from this Australino brewery was the HIVE, a spontaneous fermentation in which the entire honeycomb was fermented, also wild and supplied by a recognized natural beekeeping company located in the Blue Mountain and of the Central Tableland (Malfroy's Gold).
On the label: "Blend #5 - Bottled in January 2023 - Best before: January 2027".
The beer is golden with a more consistent foam that does not disappear on its own but remains as a cap to the beer.
Already on the nose sweet notes of honey and flowers that leave no room for any bacterial hints.
In the mouth, a beer with a slightly denser body characterized by a pleasant honeyed, floral and slightly resinous taste.
The acidic note of spontaneous fermentation is present but barely hinted at, the mouth is invaded by this delicate and well-balanced taste which certainly takes a sweet turn, but is absolutely not cloying. In fact, more herbaceous and resinous elements resist (not bitter, but field grass). Neither the lips nor the tongue appear "sticky" despite the honey flavor being the predominant one, together with the floral nuances which integrate perfectly, taking center stage at the end.
This too isn't perfectly to my tastes, honestly the first one on the route is the one I liked the most, but in any case I well understood that it's a very particular product and not knowing when I would be able to come across it again, I decided to a second round.
