Thursday. Starting it with a Goudale. Easy to drink, kind of thick bodied for a bière de garde. Always a good reliable:

Enjoying a Lapland Original Lager from Tornion Panimo in Tornio, Finland. Beer at lunch is awesome. Highly recommended.

Chang Lager with Spicy Basil Shrimp. No joke Spicy. Spent the arranging further travel. Then hit a bunch of Wats in the old palace area about 40 miles north of Bangkok. Damn it was sweaty/hot.

    Good morning Advocates,
It's been a while since I drank a Rye IPA and what's more it's characterized by a hop that I've only drunk one other time (PERFECT CIRCLE - NECTARON from the Crak brewery)

Alder Beer Co. (Seregno, ITA) - OHANA - West Coast Rye IPA (6.6%)

44 cl can (€7, from the beer shop fridge).
    On the label: "Lot: L348E - Canned: 03/22/2024 - Best before: 08/22/2024".
It is a West Coast India Pale Ale with added rye in addition to Pils, Golden Promise and Cara malts. The yeast is an American Ale.
For hops, Master Brewer Marco Valeriano opted for New Zealanders Nelson Sauvin and Nectaron.
Given my lack of knowledge of the latter, I went to look at the history a bit.
It was launched on the market in 2020 by the company NZ Hops, but its cultivation had begun sixteen years earlier by geneticist Ron Beatson, remaining in a long experimental phase due to low levels of alpha acids.
It was the era of the chase for more bitter beers and a hop with little character from that point of view would have encountered serious difficulties on the market - it is no coincidence that NZ Hops instead released Waimea, a variety with high levels of alpha acids (16- 19%). The end of the IBU dictatorship offered a commercial opportunity to Nectaron, with excellent results and it has recently also landed in Italy.
Nectaron comes with cones of considerable size, which often occupy the entire palm of a hand, and in many ways represents hop perfection.
I read that one of the most interesting peculiarities of Nectaron is its versatility. In fact, not only can it be used as an aromatic hop, but it is also suitable for bittering thanks to alpha acid levels which, curiously, are not that low for an aroma type (11-13%).
Other positive aspects: it is an extraordinarily disease-resistant hop and guarantees excellent yields for growers.
    Returning to beer:
Poured is a beautiful golden color, very clean, practically transparent (except for a very light haze).
The aromas of ripe citrus fruits and yellow peach are amplified.
Nice foam cap of medium/light consistency which still acts as a cap for the beer.
In the mouth, a medium-bodied but soft beer supported by a fairly low but adequate carbonation.
In the mouth the first taste that comes to mind is that of lemon/lemon peel, followed by other citrus notes (grapefruit, clementine juice) and summer fruit (yellow peach, plum)... But the main taste is that which brings me back to lemon.
The finish is dry, with a light bitter note followed by a cereal background (rye) that dampens it, leaving the whole stage for the citrus taste on the palate.
Very thirst-quenching and satisfying drink, not at all banal.
For me, it's worth the higher price compared to a standard product.

Good day BAs! Thanks @Shanex for getting us started! And @russpowell - you're living my dream vacation - unfortunately Mrs. Lizard won't do sweaty and hot so chances of me getting there ...

    My first milkshake IPA. Hummmm....

Final Impression and summation: 3.25 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) To my taste, strange. Lactose and citrus make an odd combination of mildly sweet and obviously tart. I’ll try to find a couple more examples of the style – not sure if I like it or not.
Rating 3.27, rDev 0% (First Review)

Good morning from the great white north.
Revisiting some old favourites and finding they aren’t quite what I remembered.

Dominion City Sunsplit IPA. Tastes pretty well the same as it looks. Carbonation’s a little heavy too.
These guys make seriously good beer. They’re a bit of a hidden gem. This one isn’t really doing for me what it used to though.

This guy confuses me… Muskoka Mad Tom. The can says IPA, but it tastes like a hop-y amber ale. Nutty taste. Warm, comforting, syrupy mouthfeel. Not at all a bad beer. Just unexpected.

Leo Strong Brrew. May be the last beers for a few days. We are going to the Southern Provinces; heavily Muslim. This is where we picked up the Boys so many years ago. Currently under a State Department Travel advisory. Much the same as last 2 times we went.

Last one of the bunch. Beyond the Pale’s Aromatherapy IPA. Another solid Ottawa-based brewer

Got this one yesterday at Dock Street in a variety pack. Wasn't too keen on drinking it, but hmm did it turn out tasty... Question for y'all - I've learned this is some kind of IPA glass. But is there a distinct or brand name for it?? [IMG]

I think these glasses are called Master Grand. There a few subtypes from the looks of it. I quite like them as they are versatile.

Cellar pull this morning, appropriate style but beyond the best by recommendation.

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Barleywine Ale (2017)

Full Cellar Review treatment linked here. Bottom line, this is nearly two years beyond the recommended best by date. Just sweet malt and booze at this stage, should have enjoyed perhaps 2-3 years from bottling, if not sooner.

My eldest niece is celebrating her BD today. She is doing awesome as an RN in Wisconsin after graduating a year ago.

Happy sunny and warm Thursday BAs

Going to get near 90 today, and in the 90's again starting Sunday through next week....yikes

Hike in, and did some spot priming on the 1963 Penguin boat, in prep for hull painting soon!

This is a nice new Fatheads lager!

Destihls Impy WCIPA. Very good, more of a modern day, or midwest West Coast IPA. I think this combines them. Sweeter than a WC, drier than Centennial of TwoHearted.
