Happy National IPA Day BA's! It's celebrated on the first Thursday of August each year, and in 2024 it will be on August 1. The day is a celebration of India Pale Ales (IPAs), a popular beer style that is known for being bitter and bold. It's a day for beer enthusiasts and hop lovers to appreciate the complexity and craft of IPAs, and to support local craft brewers. I'll start with a 3 Floyds DPA.

Happy National IPA Day! I'm celebrating this very important holiday with a Lagunitas IPA. This can says it was brewed in Belgium at Alken-Maes, under the supervision of Lagunitas. Cheers!

Yeah dudes,., this beer tastes pretty fkn good,.,

1) Utepils Skölsch! (4.9%): A Kolsch-style beer from Minnesota with flavors of pale malts, smooth vinous notes and yeast.
versus
2) Fair State Köld (4.7%): A Kölsch-style ale from Minnesota with flavors of vinous, citrus, and orchard-fruit yeast flavors atop a pale malt body. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

Winner: Fair State Kold
Kolsch Battle. First is Utepils. Pale malts, fruity yeast. Smooth and mildly sweet.
Next is Fair State Kold. A little lighter. Nice vinous notes but with slightly more complex yeast flavors.
Both are great. Fair State slightly better here.

Downstate Pale Ale. This is one of the 1st six beers this brewery began with 17 yrs ago. It's a top shelf American Pale Ale. Cheers!

 

I usually like to start with a darker beer, but I see IPAs should rule today, therefore since I do have a few cold ones handy.

Tree House Hold Onto Sunshine Nitro milk stout with coffee, chocolate and PEANUT BUTTER FOR DAYS. I've moved away a bit from pastry stouts as they are just far too sweet and too much alcohol, but this is a classic at 7.6% and not overly sweet.

 

First time trying this beer - Bitburger
