    1) Modist Just You Wait (5.2%): A German Pilsner from Minnesota aged in oak barrels for flavors of lemon citrus, earthy and nutty bread notes.
    versus
    2) Steel Toe Split Point (5.5%): A German Pils from Minnesota with flavors of pale malts, and smooth floral notes. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

    Winner: Modist Just You Wait
German Pils Battle. First is Modist. Always enjoy these oak-aged pilsners. Mild oak and nutty flavors. Moderately bitter as well. Excellent.
Next is Steel Toe. Another German Pils with crisp lemon and floral notes. Smooth.
I have always been enjoying these Modist oak-aged lagers. For summer these pilsners are great and in the winter they make some great oak-aged dark lagers as well. Modist is pretty much go to for lagers for me any time of year.

Surly Brewing Co. -- XVIII (Eighteen)

    4.2/5 rDev +3.4%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

This beer initially comes across a bit disappointing with its looks and taste, but given a bit of time in the glass, the appearance comes around nicely and the flavors, as the beer warms, become more complex and varied. The Brettanomyces Brux yeast doesn't produce a strong barnyard funk although there is a minor presence of brett in the taste. All in all, a rather tasty and unique beer, a fine anniversary beer offering.

Unlike most people this year, it seems, I have had absolutely no interested in the Olympics. Let alone any interest in Celine Dion singing at the opening...until I realized way after the fact, she performed an Edith Piaf song. And her version was incredible.

So, now it is an Edith Piaf kind of afternoon. This is one of my favorite box sets, a 14 LP set of her entire career, and an out of print French set of course ha.

Boon's Black Label, Oude Geuze seems appropriate, this is amazing. Just like Edith :sunglasses:

    Happy Saturday, BA!

Probably the most unpleasant day of the year so far for me...like 150% humidity and hot as hell.

Short burst of yard work was all i could muster. Now doing some photoshop work for some personal projects.

Having a Foley Brothers Big Bang. Fantastic Pale Ale! Looking forward to more from this brewery
