I don’t know how I missed this at my local, but I rectified that today. It has the ubiquitous Three Floyds “big DIPA” look, and the almost sinister lack of alcohol presence in a big DIPA, which can be dangerous at 9% ABV, but it’s got this juicy citrus/slight resiny pine/caramalt thing going on that I am really digging. Absolutely love it.

 

1) Stone Zumology (7.5% canned 7/10/24): An IPA from California with Mosaic and Zumo for flavors of melon, berries, tropical lime and pineapple.
versus
2) Sierra Nevada Cool Little Thing (7.5% canned 5/12/24): A hazy IPA from California with Mosaic, Crystal, Comet, and El Dorado for flavors of orange, pineapple, melon, berries. Tropical and smooth.
(Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner: Sierra Nevada Cool Little Thing
Sierra Nevada vs Stone IPA Battle. First is Stone Zumology. Second try at this after yesterday. Mosaic and Zumo. Still muted flavors. Mildly bitter. Still not super impressed.
Next is Sierra Nevada Cool Little Thing. First review on this. A nice array of flavors and hops. Tropical, flavorful and balanced. I enjoyed this.
Winner is Sierra Nevada here.

 

Magnanimous Brewing Single Rider DDH IPA with some ribs for supper.

 

That thing shouldn't be outside off-leash, it is dangerously smooth and old school in the best kind of way. Cheers, and enjoy!

 

I agree - I’m having two pints, and am looking for a place to nap. When Floyds hits their “sweet spot,” they smash it with a sledgehammer.

Hoppin' Frog Extended Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Oatmeal Imperial Stout, 9.4% ABV. I rated this 4.22 back in 2017. I just bought this 2019 example, so the store or the distributor cellared it for me. Hardly any carbonation, but that's apparently typical of this beer.

They brag about 5x the time in the barrel, but never say how long that is. Certainly not 5yrs, or they'd say that. I suspect their normal aging is short, and they probably don't want to admit that. Anyone know?
