Alma Mader's Moonblind: Maple & Coffee

 

Got a nice extra day off at my job, currently drinking a Kentucky Christmas Morning, a gingerbread and vanilla stout from Hardywood Brewery out of Virginia.

1) Andechs Weissbier Hell (5.5%): A German Hefeweizen with flavors of smooth and rich orange, bread spices of banana and cloves. Mildly sweet.
versus
2) Ayinger Bräuweisse (5.1%): A German Hefeweizen with flavors of smooth bread, caramel, sweet citrus and spices. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

German Hefeweizen Battle.
First is Andechs. Probably in the top 3. Very similar to Weihenstephaner. Rounded and complex.
Next is Ayinger. A bit darker and sweeter here. Slightly sweeter bread and some caramel notes.
Both are excellent, but Andechs takes it to the next level with the balance of yeast, citrus, bread, and spices. This one or Weihenstephaner I've got as the best.
Winner: Andechs Weissbier Hell

Aaahhh - done work for the day. Having a Jack's Abby Cranberry Chaos cranberry and orange lager. I haven't formulated an opinion on this one yet.
