What beer are you drinking now? #4454

Good morning and happy holidays to those who are not in the office like me right now.
Between dinners with family, drinks out and various celebrations, I haven't had the chance to share everything I've drunk these days, I'll need some time.
Although I can already tell you that I really liked this year's PERE NOEL (from De Ranke brewery) IN THE BOTTLE*, in better shape than the one I drank in two kegs in two different pubs.

* I was lucky enough to get the one with two asterisks above (**), which is the one intended for the domestic market in Belgium. All those intended for other markets have a single asterisk (*) on the white cap, if you didn't already know, note it.

Brasserie La Malpolon (Lavérune, FRA) - SUPER NOVA - Hoppy Saison (6,5%).

Celebratory keg for the 3rd anniversary of the Roman distributor "Pour".
33 cl glass (7€ at the pub).
Expiry date on the adhesive "medallion" of the keg: "Best before: 12/2026".
Made with only French hops in bloom: Strisselspalt (native variety of the Alsace region, delicate floral and spicy notes and subtle herbaceous and citrus hints, very close to what a European "noble hop" provides) and Triskel (cross between Strisselspalt and the English Yeoman, more pronounced fruity and floral notes, balanced bitterness, subtle citrus and spicy nuances).
It represents a version defined as "stronger and more hoppy" of the basic Saison of the house (the "NOVA SAISON").

Lemon zest and petals aroma.
Straw yellow color, medium opaque.
Right foam: not abundant but of the right consistency and that does not disappear, but remains to act as a hat.
In the mouth medium body, carbonation almost completely absent, I would say quite flat.
Rustic taste, of toasted cereal, field grass, straw, hay and dry finish slightly herbaceous (chicory, more than hops).
On the tongue a light herbaceous hint, on the palate feel "funky" (hay, grass, light wood - hints that recall the farm), fresh and pleasant.
More Farmhouse than Saison with this taste of cereals mixed with more herbaceous and woody hints, even if a light sulphurous note is present. And I happened to find this more in the Saison than in the Farmhouse.
In any case, excellent Farmhouse/Saison, very balanced and that leaves a fresh final sensation that quenches thirst and encourages another sip: excellent and great mix between respect for tradition and non-revolutionary, but perfecting innovation.

It's been rainy HARD for the last 12 hours - a lot of it will soak in since the ground is thawed.

Today's New Breakfast Beer:



Listed on BA as a "European Dark Lager" but, IMHO, could be more accurately described as a "Munich Dunkel."

Final impression and summation: 4 Very easy drinking, pleasing aroma and decent taste. The ruby color when rear-lite is a delight.

A rainy Monday preventing me from working. Sip some beers I guess.

 

Good morning BAs! Biscuits out of the oven, it’s coffee time - Angry Chair’s “Imperial German Chocolate Cup Cake”:





No canning date. I think I bought this beer at the brewery Spring of 2023. Poured at 56°. Coconut nose although faded. Sweet chocolate fudge with coconut right behind. Creamy lactose feel. A tasty pastry stout from the masters.

Cool low 50s and overcast forecast. Unless someone has something going on today, I’m going nowhere. Cheers and have a marvy Monday y’all!

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Cafe de Olla Stout (2019)



Cellar review link here. Bottom line is the best by date was August 2021, and the brewery knows best. Held up mostly well a few months toward the end of 2021, but clearly past its prime today. Will finish the rest this Winter, drinkable, but a far drop off from 2019 fresh greatness.
