Happy Tuesday BA! Decided to have my second-to-last 2016 BBADS today. Also including a photo of the side of my house. A Northern flicker has been hammering away at this spot (about 15 feet off the ground) for days, apparently planning to build a nest—that’s not going to happen. A couple days ago I covered the hole, which was about half as big as it is now, with some duct tape hoping it would fool him (or her). The bird didn’t give a fuck, kept drilling. Now I’ve hung an old towel over the whole area until I can devise a more permanent deterrent solution. So far so good. We have plenty of perfectly good trees in Seattle he/she can use. Cheers!

Get some gaps and cracks sealant. Spray it in the hole, it will expand, so you will not need need much.

Shave off the excess with a knife and then cover the hole with some all purpose wood filler using a putty knife.

It’s on the to-do list. Might wait til breeding season is over since the spot is on the side of the house where no one can see it. There’s another hole over there from a few years ago, I think made by a different bird species. Will fill them both up and wait to repeat next spring. Cheers!
