    Back in for the night. Drinking Le Héros Aux 1001 Visages from Brasserie du Grillen in Colmar, France. An English barleywine aged in red wine, rum, and whisky barrels. 11.5% ABV. Notes over in the Barleywine thread.

    @Shanex - gotta bug you with another question! Have you heard of this brewery?

    1) Tucher Brau Festbier (5.8%): A German Festbier with flavors of smooth, earthy Munich malt, smooth honey. Balanced and smooth.
    versus
    2) Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier (6.3%): A German Festbier with flavors of pale, earthy Munich malt. A light, toasty honey sweetness. (Correctly matched the two blind)

    German Festbier Battle. First is Tucher Brau. Nice smooth pale bread, honey, and Munich malt flavors.
    Next is Hofbrau. Similar but slightly more toasted and earthy notes. Incredibly complex and while often from a bottle I get a lot of light-struck off-flavors. But here in the can, this drinks among the best festbiers out there.
    Winner: Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier

    I picked this up in Freiburg (very close to Colmar) for about 7 Euro. It's very enjoyable. I love Colmar - we spent one of our daughter's birthdays there 8 years ago!

    I was in Colmar in 2017! In September if memory serves, we weren’t as “virtually acquainted” then but it seems our path have been crossing a bit over the years.
