Burns Family Artisan Ales -- Rhapsody in Blue
    Blueberry imperial stout
    ABV: 10.0%; pouring temperature: 47.4 ℉; bottling info: 2024
Source: local purchase (Coaltrain Fine Wine, Craft Beer & Spirits)
Auxiliary vice: Laws Whiskey House -- Four Grain Straight Bourbon Whiskey - Barrel Select

Clear, dark brown pour, beer appears black and opaque in the glass; half-finger thick head, dense and creamy textured, long-lasting, khaki hued. Spiffy aroma; sweet chocolate and cocoa powder, a dab of blueberry notes circling in the background. Rich milk and dark chocolate backbone; sweet; quiet blueberry undertone; a wisp of booziness. Heavy body; smooth and decadently silky; subtle overall stickiness; nice alcohol warmth.

I like how the blueberry isn't overpowering with this beer. The base imperial stout alone is worth the price of admission. Complex and balanced throughout; very flavorful.

...I'm sorry to have discovered yesterday that Burns Family Artisan Ales is shutting down completely at the end of May...I plan on stopping by sometime between tomorrow and Sunday to have a few drafts and score some vintage bottles from them...and, at least, my favorite local beer emporium in Colorado Springs has a few more bottles of their fabulous big beers...

    1) Phase Three Magnetic (8.0% canned 3/31/25): A NEIPA from Chicago with Nelson, Motueka, and Riwaka for flavors of grapefruit, passionfruit, and white grape.
    versus
    2) Phase Three Mindspark (7.8% canned canned 4/21/25): A NEIPA from Chicago with Mosaic and Mosaic Cryo for flavors of smooth grape, berries, floral tangerine, tropical lime and green melon. (Mismatched the two blind.

Phase Three NEIPA Battle. First is Magnetic. Banger hop combination with Nelson, Motueka, and Riwaka. Bright white grape, tropical berries.
Next is Mindspark. First try at this. All Mosaic. Surprisingly bright and zesty upfront on the aroma and flavor. Bright grape, but as it warms evolves some more tropical berries, tangerine, grape, and green melon. Incredibly complex, and one of the best showcases of the Mosaic hop. This is amazing stuff. Phase Three on another level. Can't get enough.
    Winner: Phase Three Mindspark

I see some blue sky! The rains have been followed by a cold front, so the temperature is dropping to the low 60s by sunset. Very nice. Cheers y’all!

    Hump Day!!!!
New beer from Good Word Brewing - The Duluth Lager. An American Lager at 5.2%. Very nice job here. Bready and spicy flavor. Has a nice floral aroma you don't get from the Big Beer outfits. Balanced. Crisp and clean. I like my Hamm's but this does have more flavor and aroma and is notably drying. Well crafted.

I'm seeing a lot of folks rolling out Summerfest now. I hadn't noticed it was on the shelves yet. Good brew.

    Today’s train beer-

Perennial x Hop Butcher - Cracker Crust

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it’s a nice American pale ale- From the BA description, it’s dry hopped with 40% each Mosaic, Nectaron, and 20% Centennial. I can pick out the centennial - maybe- I like!
