Pretty chilly day to end a pretty weird week. Dug into the fridge and saw I had two Firestone Walker §ucaba - one of which I just purchased and assumed it was this year's. It was a vintage release, perhaps, and from 2018. As batch #7, I am comparing it to batch #10, which was in 2023 and the math indicates this is not a yearly release.

Sharing with the GF and debating putting a post in the What's the Difference? thread, but I am feeling a bit lazy.

Quick and dirty... the newer beer has been in my fridge since purchased and had a deeper and longer lasting head. The 2018 nose had more depth and dark red fruit where the newer version was a bit brighter - as if the fruit noted in the older version still held some acidity. The 2023 also had a more spicy graham cracker note compared to the malt of the 2018.

The fresher beer did seem to have a fresher hop bite. The just bought, aged brew had a similar profile, but shifted towards gingerbread and, again, a "less acidic" vibe (not that I noticed any tart/sour notes, it is just meant as a relative descriptor for lack of a better one coming to mind).

I like the nose of the newer slightly more. I find the taste of the older a bit more to my liking. I also enjoy the feel of the 2018, though the looks of 2023 is a bit more appealing. I'm leaning towards 2018 as my pick today.

So much for holding anything for the other thread

Look at those suckers stuck on that boat. Probably nothing to drink but cheap Mexican Lagers.

Broo Doo Harvest Ale from 3 Floyd’s. This has been the only wet hopped ale I’ve seen this year, I’ll take it. Happy Friday, BAs! :beers:

Man, this really hit the spot. Probably the last beer of the night. Looking forward to a Manhattan or old fashioned when we go out.

This and the Wet Case Scenario are a product of a recent trip to Ohio. Came back with a lot of amazing beer not available to me in Pittsburgh. Buying beer on road trips is a thing of beauty!

Mr. Dog was most pleased to discover there is a "Black Dog Unit" of the federal nature preserve, so naturally we had to get his mug in front of the sign. Tan dog is not impressed she is not represented....

...there used to be neighborhood old ladies that would drink this stuff...Mrs. BeerGoot bought it for some near-100 year old witch, but she doesn't drink anymore...now it's my burden to dispose of in a responsible manner...

If it wasn't half decent, it wouldn't be available - just enjoy and remember there are those who would give anything for a sip or two of any beer. Makes you appreciate others when you've exhausted the supply....

I've ended up with beers left over that I don't want to drain pour, but am not fond of, helps reset the palate

    Cheers to Friday!

Tree Flat, an IPA from Hop Butcher canned 9/30, and featuring Simcoe, Amarillo & Idaho 7 Hops. It’s been a bit of a Hop Butcher drought for me, happy to see some freshies on the shelf today.
