Near black, viscous pour; no appreciable carbonation or head; opaque. Dark, rich chocolate nose; toasted coconut; subliminal whiskey element. Impeccable taste; rich milk chocolate; roasted nuts; coconut; fully-integrated bourbon note; the maple syrup aspect slowly emerges after everything else; coffee ground bitterness at the finish of every sip. Immensely dense and near-sludgy mouthfeel; heavy, heavy residual sugar feel; mighty stickiness.

Man, when two great breweries combine their efforts, one always hopes for a spectacular end result. We have one here. The amazing depth and complexity hinted at in the nose explodes with a passion once you sip this baby. The real beauty is that not a single aspect of their adjuncts or barrel aging overly dominate a thing. The real beauty lays with how each of the adjuncts exposes its presence at different times with each sip, many times oozing out from one of the other flavors that catches your attention. This one is a true beauty of the dark barrel aged brewing process.

...a cold, snowy day and perfect for a beer like this...I estimate we've gotten nearly six inches of snow and may get another inch or two...the wood fire has been burning since about 5 AM...home-made pizza tonight...

    1) New Glarus Bubbler (4.0%): A Hefeweizen from Wisconsin with flavors of orange, fruity yeast and juicyfruit with bubblegum, banana, and spices. Clean.
    versus
    2) Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier (5.4%): A German Hefeweizen with flavors of smooth orange, bread spices of banana and cloves. Yeasty. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Hefeweizen Battle. Repeating this one. Both are among the best. Very similar pours and aromas. I couldn't tell them apart on just that. On the flavor New Glarus has more lemon citrus and yeast. Weihenstephaner has more bread malt and cloves. Leans heavier as well. Very similar overall, but side-by-side the flavors are similar and the lightness drinkability of this Bubbler at 4.0% while still maintaining nearly identical flavors to Weihenstephaner is amazing for a hefeweizen. You may disagree but I'm giving a nod to The Bubbler today.
    Winner: New Glarus Bubbler

When done well, a Czech amber is fantastic. Best thing next to a Vienna Lager IMO. Cheers!

Second/final pour now that my PBR drinking wife is home from work I asked her opinion.
    "Boozy" was what she said.

Enjoying "Maple Scottish Banger", a Wee Heavy from Sierra Nevada's 2024 Society "breakfast" lineup. This was meant to emulate a maple fennel sausage and have to say the brewing team layered it well. For me personally, fennel is way to herbal and strong. Interesting beer, nonetheless.
    Cheers!

Another Pliny as both Jeter & Piper snooze away in the background. I'm so glad they get along. I was worried that he might bully her, but it's the other way around. Actually, she just likes playing w/ him. Peace...
