Good morning BAs! A chilly 34° morning to kick off my birthday…some coffee to start - Epic’s “Big Bad Baptist Black Gold” (2024) an Imperial Stout aged in Whiskey Barrels with coffee and cacao added:



Pours black with ruby edges at 52°; quick, fizzy, dark tan head; thin ring; small islands of micro dots; a few small spots of lace; medium legs on swirl. Bourbon, coffee; some booze on retronasal. Taste follows nose; bittersweet dark chocolate; vanilla as it warms; dark stone fruit; firm malt base. Silky, smooth, feel; medium body; light carbonation; not adjuncty; alcohol tingle on tongue; minimal warmth from 14.7% ABV. Overall, the coffee is fading; mostly whiskey and chocolate now; minimal sweetness; a very enjoyable barrel aged coffee stout.

Happy Monday everyone! My immigration appointment earlier today was stressful but finally finished, just need to pick up my TIE card in a month and I’ll be set until I need to renew my visa.

I was surprised this Gulden Draak wasn’t added to BA yet so I did so myself. This is a cherry fruit beer, but still solidly 8%, gorgeous ruby color with pink foam. The flavor is what you would expect, tart and cherry like, maybe not the best example of the style I’ve had but still very good. Highly recommend it if you come across it.

Planning on taking advantage of Cellaruary most weekdays this month, have two of these left once I finish this one.

Cellaruary treatment linked here. Bottom line, these have held up well as expected, perhaps a little more barrel forward and less base beer than anticipated / wanted.
