Gizmo Peppermint Stout... my BIL stopped by this place this weekend, it was 5$ a 4 pack, I'm like "yeah, pick that sh!t up for me"

I gotta say that most IPAs from this part of Canada have delivered a serious amount of bitterness. I love it.

G'day all!

I'm sipping on this Hazy IPA from Cellarmaker and Alvarado. Very good for the style. Canned February 23rd from Good Times Oakland.

"NEW! Limited Release" in the latest mixed pack from these folks. Packs a bitter punch.

 

1) Surly Oktoberfest (6.0%): A Festbier from Minnesota with flavors of crisp pale malts, Munich malts, light honey and floral notes
versus
2) Weihenstephaner Festbier (5.8%): A German Festbier with flavors of pale malt, smooth honey, cereal, pale Munich malts. Smooth. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Festbier Battle. First is Surly. Honey, floral, and smooth. Next is Weihenstephaner. A bit more German bread malts. Digging the flavors of Surly here and one of the best in the states.
Winner: Surly Oktoberfest

Good afternoon BAdvocates. I finished up my Reno B.S. surprisingly early, and traffic coming home was beautiful so I need a beer to celebrate! Drinking a Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narwhal. Drinking this one cooler than my first and I’m enjoying it more. Hides the booziness a little bit and I can pick up on the vanilla now.

My fun day continues. Going to start working on my taxes now.

Never had the Surly Oktoberfest. I've had SurlyFest, which was dry hopped and included rye in the malt bill, I believe. I quite enjoyed it even though it wasn't a traditional O-fest. Is this Oktoberfest more on the traditional side?

 

I saw that someone got some Blatz the other day so I think my closest to that one is Stroh's.
Filled some lawn bags with snow-matted debris, pampas shizz and got rid of a lot of snow mold. There's a crisp breeze today. Cheers!

 

Speaking of hiding some booziness...I know a fella who drinks 1 beer, like he doesn't buy anything else, and he puts 'em in the freezer until they're almost frozen. I've had a couple of them his way and actually I kinda liked it! The beer is Backwoods Bastard. Cheers!

Another great beer from these folks. @TwilightBeerCareer IMO Surly's Oktoberfest has more American hop bite than most Oktoberfest beers. I know you weren't asking me, but I like sharing my opinion.

 

@TwilightBeerCareer Its a more traditional festbier style, but with some classic honeyflower flavors I often get in Surly beers that fits perfectly into this one.

 

I am a ho for TIPAs.
