Heady Topper from June 2024. Has it changed? Yes, of course. But I'd still pick it over 90% of IPAs out there.

I just finished the Hidden Life of Trees, it was only a 7.5 hour book. Next up is
Gathering Moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I already read Braiding Sweetgrass from her about plant biology so it should be an amazing book.

Wicked Weed Freak of Nature from the corner gas station. 2/5/2026 can dating. Classic Centennial/Chinook/Columbus dank and resinous hops!

To each his own. I like to see my beer and I think the aroma opens up in the glass. I think you narrow down alot of the attributes when you drink from the can. JMHO. But cool. Enjoy!

Earlier this week I had one heck of a perfect Pilsner, Ruekeller Pilsener by the Bruery, Placentia, California. Now THAT was a FANTASTIC German Pilsner. Take my word for it, Beermeister32 drinks a LOT of different Pilsners! Pilsner by the bucketful!

Today we have an award winning Pilsner, the 2022 Silver Medal and 2023 World Beer Cup Gold Medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, “PILS” a 4.9% ABV Pilsner by Von Ebert Brewing, Portland, Oregon.

Well, you knew it was coming. This beer to me tastes a lot like the Acme Lager I drank yesterday. A bit cloudy, a bit spritzy, really showing characteristics that aren’t Pilsner-like, and frankly, unfinished. Average head, minimalistic lacing, taste has a touch of fruity esters according to the Beermeister32 palate. Sometimes that’s the way it is with a single-can taste, you really need to evaluate more examples to dial in what the true issue is.

So how the heck are they winning these awards with these Pilsner deviations? That’s a very good question. I think some of the folks judging must have American Ales on the brain, I can’t see how anything this far outside the usual parameters would rate so highly.

Maybe they need a couple examples of the real deal to compare to. Better yet they need a few more contestants in the German-Style Pilsner Category…. woof…
