Let's kick this thing off w/ a WCIPA that needs no introduction. Side note: Do you remember the first beer you posted on BA? I know that's a tough question, but these are the things I ponder in the early hours of the morning. Much love, and peace...

Good day all and Happy Victory’s Day in Europe. The unconditional surrender of Third Reich Germany and its final leader, Karl Dönitz after the Führer suicide.

Meaning a day off to many here, in some other European countries as well, not for every workers and professions however.

    Chouffe IPA.

    Cheers.

I can’t be sure, but I definitely remember one of the first beers I posted was a bomber of Goose Island Sophie. And that was in the early, Wild West days where WBAYDRN? was still in the early 100’s. It was fucking awesome. WBAYDRN? taught me so much about beer and made me explore so many avenues in it. It was late 2012, and looking at all these beers I had never had before, I just needed to try them. So I started trading like crazy. WBAYDRN? taught me how to enjoy beer rather than just use it as a tool to have some fun or wind down from a shitty day. I’ve Google searched early WBAYDRN? threads, and unfortunately a lot of pictures don’t display anymore, but to see some brings me back. I mean, basically no cans and an abundance of bombers. Hell yeah. I love it all. Shit, I love the Hunter man too. So from here, I say let’s go. Lfg!

Our WWII soldiers are definitely part of America’s greatest generation. And here I have one of my grandpa’s (both served and the other got a Purple Heart), medals after he served in the Navy and fought at the battle of Coral Sea. And if you’re wondering where Raul got his looks from, I mean, look at my Noni (grandma), in this picture. She was hot stuff! Cheers to you, Pierick. And France for being a great ally.

Cheers Raul, glad that you find France to be a great ally. Wanted to add the history bits without being obnoxious anyway.

The first beer I have ever posted might have been Fischer an Alsatian one. Not 100% sure.

That is a great memorial there. I wish I or one of my siblings had something like that for my Ddad's time spent in Uniform. My sister has his folded flag. Him & Mom rest at Arlington,

On the game I concur with 90% of your assessment. My oldest son is Lakers all the way & still grieves about the Mamba's demise.

As I drain the last sips of this Stoopid, fell asleep in waning moments of the game

So we have @TheIPAHunter starting the thread and @Shanex bringing it up from the rear? Yeah, that dog can hunt! And it’s something that I want to be a part of! I’m still in search of a good local beer store. So right now I have what was best from my lackluster corner store. It’s time, baby. Club Raul wants you late night. Club Raul wants you any night. So let’s go with the official song of Club Raul:

Growing up 30 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles, I must say that there was nothing like the Lakers three-peat in the early 2000’s. It was a special thing. With that, there is nothing that LeBron can do to eclipse that magical and monumental time. Now, with the Dodgers having a long championship drought until winning it all in 2020 (which was a legit title and you can shove your Mickey Mouse title up your you know where… and of course we were cheated out of a title in 2017… Raul, get to the point)… oh, LA was more of a Laker town than Dodger. But now with the Dodgers smashing fools and winning championships, I think LA is now a Dodger town. If Luca was healthy though… Damn, just a bummer that your hometown team can’t be at their best. Cheers, brother.

Thanks Raul! I was going to wait until a pour or two during my planned third consecutive day visiting The Beer Temple, but have plenty of beer here, so here is my cellar selection.

Revolution Brewing Coconut Deth (Canned July 13, 2020 @ 7:48:55 AM)

My first reviewed beer was a Heineken from a work event. Between work business and only knowing about the Great Lakes Forum my first few years here, it wasn’t until 2019 (retired July 5, 2019) that I began posting beers beyond my beer reviews to Beer Advocate.

Based on what I could find, and thankfully with all pictures still intact. My user name was dukeandduke after my Motley Fool user name, one of the few other “social media” sites I registered for over time, until changing to ChicagoJ, which more accurately reflects my participation and beer selections here (June 11, 2020 per the website)

January 10, 2019: First Beer Haul (Trappists Rochefort 6, Central Waters Cassian Sunset, and four packs of Old Nation M-43 + Toppling Goliath Four Packs SOSUS, King Sue & Pseudo Sue). Noted but not pictured, Revolution A Little Crazy.

September 22, 2019: First New Beer Sunday Post Edition #761 - Hop Butcher For The World Old School Hawaii Vibes. Thank you @cjgiant for welcoming me !

September 24, 2019: First WBAYDN Post Edition #2530 - Hop Butcher For The World Preserved In Three Dimensions

Ending with an homage to my first WBAYDN post with the song I embedded in said post.

I need more Revolution in my life. I don’t care what @Resistance88 thinks! Also, I’m reminded of when @GreenBayBA came out to California in 2020. We had an awesome day (as much as possible during those times), of drinking and comradery. And at the end of the night after our time together was over, I cracked a Cafe Deth that Michah gifted me as a night cap. And all I can say is do not drink a Revolution Stout as a night cap after a day of drinking no matter what the circumstances are! I was in bad shape the majority of the next day :stuck_out_tongue:

I just Google searched WBAYDN? #129, and it was a different world back then! Lots of glass bottles and breweries you don’t really see today. Also, that day was a Tuesday, yet the bar still went ten pages deep! Yes, I reminisce about the older days a lot, but that is the way of Raul. The majority of posters in the thread mare ghosts now. Though looking through a few pages I saw @lordofthewiens @cavedave (rip) and @gatornation . @superspak were you posting this early? Fun times! And I know that current WBAYDN? can bring the thunder if need be. Cheers!

    Sounds like an epic meetup.

It took until several years ago for me to learn the key to avoiding any ill effects the current or following day is steady hydration (about a water per drink). Would have saved decades of pain if they taught that in high school.

Cool you were able to find your initial beer WBAYDN participation.

My song selection from my first New Beer Sunday post linked above, back when music videos were allowed in that thread, and Weekends were made for Michelob, but Sundays were Sacred for New Beer.

Happy Friday again BA. Thanks @TheIPAHunter for the engaging thread introduction. Keep living large sir.

I can't really find my first post because it was before the 2012 crash. I still like to reminisce about the old site on waybackmachine. Anyway, I went into the crypts of Facebook to find my first official "haul" 2 days after I joined the site, May 2010. I drank Two Hearted first and was like "damn this is bitter" and now I drink west coasts like resin water :stuck_out_tongue: My first review was Stone Sublimely Self Righteous. I didn't review one until I got a little bit of a palate, but it's become a Cicerone level on any style after over 10k beers. I still want to take the Certified in-person test, just need to study a little.

Roxy is getting spay staples out today. Kittens are 9 weeks old. Getting reddit karma on illegallysmolcats with a DSLR is easy. Stormy is the reason to lock my gaming keyboard or else get weird surprises when I wake up and see settings disabled in Windows :grimacing:

3/18/2026 Wicked Weed Pernicious from a 12 pack. My Go-To IPA. Refreshingly dank and crisp resins. 20 bucks at walmart and always fresh.

I have always felt some sort of way that Italy changed sides so late into the war, but as we know Il Duce needed to be stopped first!

    Buona Festa della Liberazione!

I loved sending you beer back in the day to see your expert reviews on SoCal stuff. I definitely tried to orchestrate a unique and solid box to wow your then Michigan palate. Cheers my bro!

    Happy Fri-Yay! Kitty mosh pit!

I know one of the things you do need to study for the Cicerone is off flavors. I have used the Cicerone kit as well as the one from Siebel Institute. I really enjoyed this aspect when I trained breweries out west.

Italy didn’t just decide to change sides for fun. Slowly but surely, American and British forces took over Sicily and mainland Italy - which led to the end of fascism - which was punctuated with the hanging of II Duce. (With this victory, it also made German forces in Italy retreat).

I understand completely, and maybe I did not phrase my feelings clearly the first time around.

As an Italian American, it is one of those painful parts of history where I honestly wish Mussolini never had influence over Italy at all. My great grandfather came to America as fascism was beginning to rise, so that era has always felt personal to me.

The old “at least the trains ran on time” line gets repeated as dark humor sometimes, but history shows the real human cost behind all of it.

My great grandfather served the United States, and both my American and Italian grandfathers served as well, so these conversations carry a lot of family weight for me.
