Good morning @Shanex and thank you for starting today’s WBAYDN! I’m still up and working my way through Foam Brewers 10th Anniversary 8 pack! This one is “Some Things Last A Long Time “ Steam-Style Beer!

Good day BAs! Thanks @Shanex for opening the bar! Today continues yesterday's cold raininess - looks like another day spent indoors drinking beer and watching TV...

Today's Breakfast Beer, while not a newbie, is at least an oldie:



Darkness (Brewed 09/09/20, bottled 09/24) from Surly Brewing. 25.4 fl oz (750 mL) bottle, black wax, Gorgon art by Barbara Guttman. Picked up at Shangy’s in Emmaus, PA, back in 2024, $ 18.00. Stored at 40 degrees F at home. Served at 57.2 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Style: Follows the BA style description.
Final impression and summation: CREDITED LABEL ART! Excellent RIS as always, probably worth the price – “hop punch” is gone, but the coffee, chocolate, and (faint) cherry remain.

I’ll stand by my previous rating of 4.36.

Bottom line, this is brewed with the typical Spiteful MO of full and wonderful flavors and bitterness to keep this balanced. This is how Hazy should be, at least based on my tastes.

 

It’s a public holiday today in Hungary so I took the train to Slovakia to drink beer at a brewery in a 16th century fortress. Kamarum Brewery Villa Camarum 10° svetlý ležák.

Next up at Kamarum is Ferdinand IPA, the bartender’s recommendation. It’s actually not bad at all but you don’t come to Slovakia (or Czechia or Germany) for the IPAs, you know? Their competitive advantage really is in their stellar lagers.

Last day of a week long staycation I gave myself. Proper last day of vacation beer.

 

Post-easy workout (due to bad hamstring and achilles) beer is another resurrected classic from Surly, Bender:


Seems to lean closer to a brown ale than it used to--lighter body than I remember. I used to consider it a porter though Surly has always called it a brown.

Next up is Kronwerk, their amber lager here at Kamarum. It’s good!

Also I shouldn’t have denigrated Central European IPAs (mild though the denigration was). That last beer really grew on me and in the end was a good IPA I’d be happy to order in the good ol’ US of A.

Also, drinking in this 16th century fortress, I have never felt safer from Ottoman invasion.
