Rustic American barleywine stylings; strong spiced vegetal pumpkin character...

...hearty with subdued sweetness; rye and brandy barrel woodsy accents...

I rank it among my tops - both as a barleywine and as a pumpkin ale.

    Yeah...

Sounds like a delicious combo. Pumpkin in beers seem to always work better when the (base?) beer is a dark one.

    Rogue Mocha Porter

I'm starting a little earlier than normal on this Sunday because of the coffee-inspired nature of this beer. It poured a dark, roasted black with several fingers of head. A pretty mild aroma of coffee and roasted malts is present upon smelling the beer. There's a definite roasted flavor with a subtle mocha backbone in the aftertaste. Overall, the beer has a good mouthfeel and it leaves a nice lacing on the glass. 3.5/5

I initially received one of these beers as a b-day gift and have since mail ordered a case. It is a delicious, solid Netherlands brew that I quite enjoy.

And, in keeping with the Netherlands theme - since this week is the 70th anniversary of WWII's Operation Market Garden (a.k.a. "A Bridge too Far"), I thought I might learn more about some heroes of that operation. I always thought the US Medal of Honor difficult enough to earn, but the British Victoria Cross in a league of heroism all its own (take a couple hours and watch this):
