I was drinking things like Moosehead and Rolling Rock and Labatts, then I tried a Blue Moon which introduced me to Heffs, from there I found Belgium's and then I started working from there. Heffs, Wits and Belgiums are still some of my favorites.

I've never liked BMC stuff. I used to drink the imports or micros at the time. Shiner, Honey Brown, Killians. You know, the stuff that made you feel like you were cooler. I started drinking stuff like Red Hook, Red Seal, Chimay, Celis, and some other tasty stuff at local watering holes. Then I wondered into Saint Arnold for the first time. After having their Christmas Ale and IPA, I realized that this small brewery stuff was pretty tasty. I started trying new things all the time from the liquor store. Then I had my first DFH 90. I think that solidified it. It's not even a beer I buy that often at all any more, but it really showed me what craft beer could be. It's been all downhill since.

Always preferred ale even in high school-lived in Ohio and drank Carling's Red Cap and Pabst Old Tankard. During Orientation Week at OSU in 1957 I had a bottle of a dark ale from Scotland called Younger's Double Century (I think) and that started my search for something better than BMC.

Sadly Shipyard Pumpkin did it for me, but that just led to trying the other serious pumpkins, so I'd go ahead and say pumpkin brews on the whole.

Honestly never liked BMC. My parents were particularly in love with Bud Lite and Corona, leading me to believe I disliked beer (maybe not such a bad thing for a teenager). Ran out of water at a camping trip and had to quench my thirst with Yuengling, bringing me into the world of actual beer.
Phase Two I think was exploring all of the seasonal stuff at Iron Hill brewpub and then moving on to the great bottle selection at State Line.

If i was answering what got me away from complete main stream beers then in would be Killians. Actual beer that turned me in a BA drinker would be Point 2012 and Capital Amber. I just started to realize there was a lot of better beer out there. Since i have moved way past the days of Killians and Leinnes Berryweiss.

My roommate at the time quit his job in anger. Then his friend got him a job working at a small, fairly new craft beer bar. First time I visited, he gave me a Delirium and Ballast Point Yellowtail. I started drinking nothing but Belgians and seeking out new ones in the process. The rest was history

Hacker Pschorr Weisse for me. My Dad gave me one on my 21st Bday and said "You'll like this better than anything you've had so far." He was right and from that moment on I tried to find and explore all different styles. Lurked on BA for a couple years and finally signed up last year. Crazy transformation the last 4 years.

I will have to say Gonzo Imperial Porter! I had a Gumballhead in Chicago before that which made me curious. Then I had a Gonzo straight from the bottle and it was thick, chewy, bitter, and way too strong.
Now I am obsessed with good ales!!

I want to go ahead and say Sam Adams Summer Ale, because I can't think of anything else.

Thing is, I really don't even care for it anymore. It's pretty good on tap, but I can do without it in the bottle. Sam Adams did, and still is, encouraging me to try different styles of beer with their reasonably priced seasonal packs.

Chimay Grand Reserve--I asked a waiter at a restaurant while I was out on a date in 1991 for a beer recommendation and that is what he came back with. That was the end of regular domestic beer for me!

I remember it like it was yesterday, summer of 1992 at the Buffalo Company in Denver. Waiter suggested we try this new beer from a " microbrewery" called New Belgium. Never had heard of a microbrewery at the time and was served Fat Tire. Had more flavor than Any ale I'd ever had and I became a fan.

Rochefort 10 and a Coop's DNR this past weekend. Never been much of a beer drinker, but I never cared for the taste of beer, until I tried these.

First time posting. For me it was Weihenstephaner Hefe. I moved to Germany last summer and before that I was BMC guy. I decided if I am going to be in this country I have to enjoy the beers here. I am now trying anything I can find here and Belgian beers are probably my favorites, especially quads. It helps that I can be in Belgium in just over a hour to buy different things. The base gets a American craft beers. Right now they have Dead Guy, West Coast IPA and a few others. I am in my mid 30's and I am upset at time lost drinking BMC and not branching out and trying new beers.

Any time I drank BMC it was when there was no other option. I could never 'shotgun' beers, so the beer always warmed up by the end and excited my gag reflex. This experience led me to avoid beer for many years. One day on a whim I got a sixer at Trader Joe's. I don't remember which one, a brown ale, pale, but ever since then I've been a beer drinker.
