It was various cask conditioned ales that i had during a trip to London. Also went to Belgium on the same trip. Came back with a new appreciation for beer and could never look at my beloved Coors Light the same way again...

Samuel Adams Boston lager started me on my way, I was sick of drinking what the establishment told me to drink (I dislike conformity to a great extent) and figured there must be something else out there. Deschutes Inversion IPA is what really started the madness for me though. That and their Red Chair PNWA. Glad I "discovered " that there was soo much more out there.

I know it's now a product of MillerCoors which is a big no-no on this site but I have to say Blue Moon. It was years ago when I was much younger and stuck to most of the macro (BMC) companies, but Blue Moon really opened the door to trying out new things. It led me to trying out a lot of different Witbier/Hefeweizens and from their to other types of beers. I know I will probably get heat for it but Blue Moon is still one of my favorite beers that can be found anywhere.

Sweetwater 420 and Sweetwater IPA and those led me to DFH 90 Minute. It was on after that.

Sheaf Stout from Southbank, Australia. A buddy passed one my way while we were hanging out in the The Globe in downtown Athens, GA probably in about 1989-1990. Blew me away, and I never looked back.

Boulevard Wheat was one of the only non micros on tap at any of the college bars to drink so I would have that time to time. After college I found myself in Kansas City and tried Saison Brett and that is what really got me excited for trying new things.

Oberon. In the summer of '97 my local bar got a keg and I was done with all the macros. Then, later that summer, something called the Michigan Brewers Guild put on a beer festival. Wait, a festival all about beer?!?
    The start of my addiction.

The wide availability of Goose Island Honkers and 312 when I moved to Chicago 10 years ago opened my eyes to the fact that I could find beer at bars that tasted a whole lot better than Miller Lite.

When I moved back to the Philly area, I lived near a bar that always had at least one variety of Chimay available on tap. Trying Cinq Cents a few times sold me on non-macro beer.

Sam Adams Boston Lager when I was 18 years old. And I would have to throw Pete's Wicked Ale in there as well. That began what has become an obsession. I drank plenty of crap beer before that, but once I hit the craft it was all over for the major labels and I haven't looked back.

Growing up in New England, pretty good chance that Sam gets you started. Boston Lager was the first beer that showed me there was more flavor out there. From there I discovered things like 60 minute and Brooklyn Lager and Brooklyn Summer helped push me along.
