I originally hated beer. All I was familiar with was domestic and wishy washy imports. Vodka was my drink until I flew out to Philly to see my nephew and he took me to Wayerbacher "Idiots Drool" release. At the time I was being muled and didn't know it (booo) I wouldn't of done it now. I was able to walk around and sample some of their other beers. From that point on I was hooked in the craft scene. Now it's an obsession. Never even tasted the drool but I heard it wasn't all that. I haven't touched Vodka since and being from Chicago this is a craft beer playground.

It wasn't so much any one beer as it was time spent with a friend who tends bar at a craft beer taproom. You end up trying a lot of interesting brews that way.

Both definitely important to me as well. Back when I was first able to buy beer legally (a couple decades ago), it was also Bass. Later it was Newcastle.

Red Hook ESB pilfered from my parents' fridge. I haven't had it in years because its really not too exciting, but at the time being able to taste bitterness in beer was a revelation.
