My brother-in-law said he had been trying some Porters and said they were very popular just prior to prohibition. So Coors Light quickly became a thing of the past. Something new became exciting. Porters and everything else. Many beer joints like the Flying Saucer became extraordinary. Still diggin' it and looks like there's no end to it now. Check out "Tasting Beer" by Randy Mosher if you haven't already.

My favourite regular beer of today is one I began drinking in the early 1960s.It was brewed at the time by a middling sized regional brewery, now it comes from a tiny "craft" brewery. But its owner was the brewer in the regional brewery ,he uses the same recipe and strives to make it as close as possible to the original.
The old ones are always the best

Flying Dog Canis Major mixed 4pk. First craft was something else, but didn't take it seriously until we sat down those beers one day at a time and actually talked through tasting and used proper glassware and whatnot. Was probably 18 or 19? Lot of fun and got me interested in all this going forward, and he started picking us up craft on beer runs using "courtesy fees" everybody else paid.

Boston Lager is where it started for me. It quickly expanded to SNPA, Allagash White and Dogfish 60 min as I ventured into trying a variety of styles.

At parties it was always Miller Lite...cheap, flavorless and my wife preferred it over Sam Adams and Yuengling. Then my supervisor one day said try this, Founders Dirty Bastard. Cracked it open once I got home and was like "What the hell is this, what have I been missing out by walking pass all these beers to get to these commercial brands?!" Now I stare at every bottle wondering what to try next

Sixpoint Sweet Action back in 2009. Oddly enough it was a pitcher of it purchased at Brooklyn Bowl. I brought it back to our lane and my friends all thought it was delicious too.

Sierra Nevada was really one of the first beers that I was buying with regularity. I just knew it was better tasting than Budweiser etc. It was brewed in Chico and I had family in the area and a good friend going to school there. Just thought I was supporting the local economy. From Sierra Nevada I than drank Mendicino Red Ale as I was going to college in the area (Sonoma State) and it was close by. Than after graduation it was Stone as I loved the "Your Not Worthy" campaign. From there I never turned back.

One night in 1989, shared sixers of SNPA, Anchor Liberty Ale and Leinenkugel Lager with some friends. Those were rare beasts in Buffalo NY back then.

My obsession with craft beer began in 2008 with Real Ale Brewing Co (Blanco, TX). I was waiting to be seated at an Austin restaurant that had Rio Blanco on tap. I thought I'd give it a try & was hooked instantly! That led me to buy one of their mixed- 6 packs, then Fireman's #4 (before they made 4-Squared), then Devil's Backbone. The rest is history!
My beer-palate has grown significantly through the years but Real Ale will always hold a special place in my heart as being the one that started it all for me! I've visited their brewery 3 times & am long-overdue for a 4th.

Indirectly, Sam Adams Boston Lager. It was my dad's favorite beer and it kind of set the groundwork for my understanding of what beer was. BMC was never part of my idea of beer.

In terms of my own drinking, probably Victory Hop Devil and Prima Pils.

New Glarus Spotted Cow and it was the first beer I ever had. I couldn't get it in Alabama, so I decided to start brewing with the dream to one day brew a beer as good as Spotted Cow. 9 years later and I'm the brewmaster at a brewery that just was awarded a gold medal for a Cream Ale inspired by the first beer I ever drank.
