Apologies for the lack of precision. I lived in California in the early 70s and sampled out-of market beers when friends brought them to me. I was considering my bar-hopping experience in San Diego where Bud and Coors were dominant. I had moved from the northwest. The locals were still strong there (Blitz, Heidelberg, Rainier, Oly, Lucky) and Coors wasn't even distributed.

That fits with my memory. I didn't see Coors around until the later 80s or even early 90s. I think that I had my first Coors (which was a Coors Light) in Maryland in 1990.

I had missed the posts where @moodenba mentioned time spent out west. My oversight.:flushed:

My apologies for not reading your posts where you had mentioned that you were in California.:flushed:

Rainer I remember being 'featured' in the series Longmire, which was set in Wyoming. The main character, Walt Longmire, drank Rainer exclusively (mostly).

I have one sitting in my fridge and might have one more in a box. I was quite excited when I found a six and paid almost $18. This was some years ago. I gave two away, drain poured another and have two, maybe 3 left. It was like drinking lava. I was expecting a nice hoppy beer with hot and flavorful pepper. NO! It was just hot and hot and worse than that cave creek shit, another drain pour. The HS was felt burning all the way down my chest, and it had no real flavor of an IPA.

    Enjoy

Back when I could actually find the beer fresh I found that each & every bottle had a different level of heat. Even from the same 6pk. I liked them all though prefer the heat underneath the beer. On a few occasions it took 90 min to finish one bottle. Mild or strong I still love it! Cheers!

The original Sucks was just so good. After the ABV and recipe changed no thanks. It definitely Changed according to Tony in a rant he posted. He talked about hops changing and the abv is not the same either. The 40oz bottles were not good either.

These are the first two years bottles

    Enjoy

Eastern Brewing made dozens of brands, but not one of them has gotten any love here as a beer someone would like to see brought back.

If I had to make a list of the worst beers that I've ever had, Eastern would be well represented, with Old Bohemian Cream Ale probably taking the top honor.

I'd like to see Guinness Gold brought back from retirement and the Original Newcastle Brown Ale recipe, not the crap from Heineken or Lagunitas.

    SN Kellerweis. So bad.
But they kind of have a history of discontinuing many of their most loved beers, and exchanging them for stuff that probably sells slightly better.

Before we return to the 21st Century, I was going to suggest Andeker as a historic brew to bring back. Then I see there was a discussion on this two years ago, with Pabst allegedly re- launching Andeker and others... I wonder how that worked out?

Like here in Oregon most indie sit down pizza places still offer an amber..usually Alaskan.
IMO amber is the only way to go with pizza

One question I had was: what version of Andeker did they try to resurrect? The 70s era beer in the slope-shouldered bottle (Michelob style) with the gold label was a favorite. In the late 70s or early 80s they reformulated it and put the beer into a more typical "export" bottle with a mostly black and white label. Although promoted as all-malt, I wasn't a fan. I never heard any indication of what version of Andeker their relaunced beer was supposed to be. Also it would be interesting to hear an opinion from someone who sampled the recent Andeker and had had one of the earlier versions. Another Pabst oldie was Old Tankard Ale.

The last dark draft domestic I had in a pizza parlor was a Falstaff dark in a Portland Shakey's at 122d and San Rafael in about 1980 with MacTrail. Earlier, in 1968 and 69 while in college, my friends and I used that same Shakey's as a launch-pad for our dime-beer night excursions. Draft beers were 10c (or 30c for an Oregon then-standard quart (?) pitcher) during certain hours some weeknights.

    If the 1970's Andeker was revived, and easily available in Eastern Tennessee/Mid South, I'd likely be enjoying it at the right price. I liked the 1970's era Andeker just fine. Usually got comped it after repairing the bar's jukeboxes, pinballs, arcade games as a teenager. Long as I was reasonable about not being obnoxious, not drinking too many, bar owner gave me all I wanted for free. ;
