I agree -- except when consumed at the Royal Oak....one of London's perfect unspoiled pubs. I could sit and drink the Harvey's line up till the end of time if that was my local. Cheers.

Anything Pugsley/Ringwood but I guess I'm kind of repeating myself at this point.

I think their only thing going are the fans of sour beers. They make a few which people are religious for.

Fair enough- and a lot of stores do 'pre-age' them. But if you don't recall a flowery/barnyard brett character then you didn't have them at their best. I felt the same way as you when they were first introduced to NJ, but then happened upon some really ripe ones and finally 'got it'.

This isn't to convince you to try them again, fwiw, but just to explain why those beers are held in high esteem.

Did you try lucky 13? Rather hoppy red ale.

    Leinenkugel is disgusting.

I wonder if this is another case of two different countries looking at a brewer from opposite directions. When I think of Harvey's, it's the Christmas and Elizabethan Ales, which are really quite nice. We don't even see the other stuff over here.

I won a 12-pack of Leinies in a raffle once - gave it away. This was at a festival a few miles from the brewery, so certainly a few people there who worked at Leinies registered my disgust at winning...

Somewhat agree. I have had a lot of beers from TH and none made me say I want another one but none have been bad. I have not had any cans yet.

    Enjoy

New Belgium, especially Fat Tire, just don't understand the hype on that beer. If you like it more power to you, but I have tried it many times thinking what is my problem. Now it is over.

I've not had Old Chub, but Ten Fidy, the BA version, Mama's Little Yella Pils, Dale's Pale Ale....I all find to be extremely overrated and not to my taste. If I was making a top-25 list by style, none of them would place

Wow this is an interesting thread so far. Some very surprising breweries listed, making me want to say but, but, have you had x? Or y?

Here's one I have no hesitation about though:

Get the hell outta here with that nonsense.

I know I am going to upset some people but.....................Dogfish Head. There, I said it. Never have been impressed by any of their offerings.

I'm kind of a saranac fanboy but totally understand people's disdain for their beer. However, lately they've been putting out some really great beers. Brewer's blood, hoppy hour hero Moe.sai.ac, cold brew coffee lager, disruption and basking in bourbon have all solid efforts.

Have you tried and how do you feel about their sours (cuvée d, rosso e, flaming fury, hops n roses)? Smoke from the oak series are tasty too.

A beer site for consumer reviews needs threads like these... but boy they're usually a terrible experience. I'm not trying to finger-wag, but I guess the first post set the tone by claiming that a brewer's beer was both generic and spit. That's a difficult thing for a brewer to accomplish. Kudos to Kona. I'm a lousy hypocrite though since I'll probably read this thread in it's entirety.

Here's a thread to give you some other perspectives:

@patto1ro has always championed their Sussex. I'm very happy that I managed to drink some cask Sussex in NYC - which is something you almost never see. I'm also happy that I currently have two of the imperial stouts (and one Courage) in my fridge waiting for me this very minute.
