You mean to tell me you don't like cigar smoke infused beers? haha.

If I still lived in Ghent, I'd visit this place a lot more, even though I no longer smoke. I went at the open but haven't returned.

Fair enough. I do live in Ghent and as a non-smoker I didn't care for the cigar smoke smell that permeated the taproom on my visit. Wasn't impressed by the beer either.

Around here it's actually taboo to shame shame any local brewery. It's very different. You can feel indifferent about a beer or something but don't talk it down because you will get the cold shoulder.

Very different where other places I've been and lived it was somewhat "cool" to slam a local brewery that wasn't doing what you liked.

"Another pilsner? Suck. They should fix the flaws and DMS in their current recipe so it's actually good."

    Opposed to,

"So-and-so is coming out with another pilsner, not my thing but exciting nonetheless."

Shrug. It's polite and politically correct but I'm not quite sure how I feel about it because I like to call things as they are. :no_mouth:

Agree - Buzzard's Bay beer is barely mediocre. But I've been twice in the last couple of years due to the vibe/food trucks. Location/Venue is so important. But I wish they would show some pride and work on improving the quality of their beers. They have to know they're bad.

This was a long time ago, though it may still be going on. When I was growing up in Wisconsin I lived about 30 miles from Chippewa Falls where Leinenkugel is brewed. In our town everybody hated Leinie's and had a few derogatory names for it. Years later it seems obvious that this was all due to high-school rivalry. Fast-forward to the 90's when we were on a bowling league in South Dakota and they announced they had the new beer that was all the rage - Leinenkugel's. We had a good laugh about people being excited about Leinie's.

They had a few decent old holdouts even in to the mid 2000s. Not sure now, all I see is fruity BS on offer now

Magic Hat has been the go-to victim around here for many years, mostly for good reason. They are better now than 7-8 years ago but not good enough for me to actually buy their product.

Damn, does this tug on some heart strings. I knew that when Evan left, things would go sideways. Then when Vito (the hype man essentially) left, it seemed it would all go down hill. I was a huge fan of Noble back when I lived there. When they started their can releases, the fact that Evan was collecting and shaking hands and thanking everyone for their support only solidified Noble's awesomeness, not to mention their rediculously tasty offerings.

To hear that they are a "running joke" now is depressing. Long live Showers, Tongue Tickles, and Naughty Sauce!

Edit: And now, living up here, the "running jokes" have gone the way of the dodo. Bridgeport and Alameda, long time staples and trailblazers in their own rights, have closed their doors. Lesson learned: support those you love because they'll be gone before you know it if they fall into the shadows.

    Cheers.

Naughty Sauce was once my “desert island” beer. Sadly, no more.

Agreed - and it can't be the equipment because Pretty Things used to brew there and made some world class brews. Not everything has to be world class, but it should be at least palatable. Even "average" beer in that location would create a superior experience. Whether it's fair or not, they do perfectly exemplify a place where the beer is secondary and they can keep on keepin' on.
