I'm going to Indy on Monday for work. I wont have a lot of time but I want to hit one brewery in Indy. What brewery is a must go. I'm in to big hoppy beers. I live a few miles from fff. Any help would be great.

    Black Acre

I was in Indy several months ago and if I had to pick just one on a return trip, that's the one. I visited twice in one day actually.

Black Acre is killing it right now. That citra hopped lager they have knocks my socks off everytime.

Black Acre is phenomenal. I also really like the Bier Brewery, and if you're into IPAs, the One Hop Wonder from Chilly Waters Brewing is stupendous, definitely one of my favorite Indianapolis IPAs right now. If you were to go down to that one, you'd be literally right around the corner from Fountain Square Brewing, so you could possibly hit them both...

I've only had one beer from Chilly Water and wasn't impressed at all. I stand by previous recommendation of Black Acre being best in the city. That's the place to hit if you can only hit one spot.

I'll second (or fifth or whatever) Black Acre. No one else is even close right now.

Hadn't heard of Black Acre, but I'll keep them, Fountain Square and Chilly Waters in mind for a visit next time I'm in Indy. Of course I hear a lot about Sun King, but good to know about those others as well.

If you go to Black Acre I'd recommend supplementing that visit with a trip to Jockamo's pizza, which is just a couple doors down and is excellent.

Thanks for the suggestion. Never hurts to know of a good mom and pop place to eat at beforehand, especially if a brewery/brewpub doesn't serve their own food, and offers little more than say prepackaged chips/pretzels/beef jerky/etc.

Just checked out Sun King for the first time last weekend. Really enjoyed the patio there, and they had some solid seasonal releases. The Foxy Jam Pants really grew on me the more I drank it. I'm a "hops" guy and that fit the bill.

I'll give a shoutout to Brugge, since they have Outliers stuff as well and the food is stellar.

But really, it's hard to suggest anything besides Black Acre. It's an amazing place. Food there is nothing to sneeze at either...

Oh I agree that most of their beer is pedestrian, but the One Hop Wonder is really spectacular - I tried it when I was there for a tasting, and it blew everything else in their lineup out of the water.

Anyone know if Black Acre has any plans to bottle/can anytime soon? I know they just moved into a larger facility and I'm cautiously optimistic that bottles/cans will be coming in the future.

Brand new operation - St. Joseph's brewery off of Mass Ave. has a citra hopped IPA dubbed "Confessional IPA" that is absolute amazeballs.

I'll second Brugge. It is not that I have anything against Black Acre. To my shame, I've yet to get over there. In my defense, it is about as far as you can get from where I live and still be in Indianapolis, which makes it inconvenient, but given the love in this thread, it is obvious I need to make some time.

I do believe that cans or bottles are in the plans. I have no idea the timeline on that though

Black Acre also has stuff from Central State on tap, they're an all-Brett focused group that shares BA's new production facility. The pale is really good, and its like two breweries in one!

Monday's are $4 Indiana beers. One of the better beer deals in an expensive beer city to drink in.
