This article sets a new standard (high or low readers choice) in pointless overthinking about beer.

This fellow can really write! Skill at writing, a good education, and a little knowledge doesn't really mean one has something meaningful to say. I read this piece and got just a bit angry here and there. Like @LeperJim, I found the bit about "our fickle and dying earth", just so perfectly, nauseatingly, and pitifully kinda over dramatic in a smug know-it-all way too clever wink wink dumbass manner that I had to end up laughing. Ha!
I'm going to lose some "cultural capital" and simply remain a life-long beer enthusiast, not giving too much of a damn about what other people drink or listen to; but I'll be damned if I will not keep pleading my case for what I like in beer, music, and this culture that we inhabit. I think the author needs to get out a little more.

it's all about the clicks...don't have to actually make a point or be coherent. Just something that moves the needle

It's like doing an article android v iphone....easy way to move the needle

I also think "they" know we're having a good time back in the lively craft beer section of the bar...and...they don't like that. :grinning:

    So Morpheus was right???

I'm still surprised that not only was this written but others liked it, approved it and sent it for publication, personally I would be more concerned about that then what I'll be next, but I'm an older beer snob

I'm so out of touch. Don't see much, if anything, in the article that talks about what's in my world or how I see the world. Since I don't look down on or think I'm superior to folks who don't share my tastes or views I don't even get the chance to be a snob. I'm so out of touch.

I was actually enjoying the article until the last 5 paragraphs where it started sounding like a sociology thesis and was over-analyzing the fact that people over-analyze things.

Does drinking PBR out of a red plastic cup with my pinkie extended qualify me as a snob? With the right combination of swirling, sniffing and swishing I could probably pull it off.

All that helps, but you only get to be a snob if you also think you are superior to others and/or tell them so.

Luckily I see myself as a beerdhisatva striving for beervana. This is temporary, just like bad beer. And great beer.

Binary is either on or off, or 1s an 0s. Implying the beer word is binary is apauling. Firstly I would only consider the beer world binary if I only enjoyed one style or if most people do. That's not usually the case. Most people love a variety of styles, and breweries are pumping out more New creative beers. Micro breweries are evoling rapidly and so are my taste buds.

People may call me a beer, cheese, mustard(I like to make my own and it will blow your socks off it is so look hot,but with tons of flavor), coffee among other things snob. I like good quality consumables and will try anything. Don't look down on anyone for what they like or don't like. Always welcome people to try different tastes that are out of their box. I am a craft beer guy through and through but sure enjoy an ice cold PBR on a hot day on the golf course! I've noticed something for sure.......seems like people that will only drink budwiser or any other macro product are usually uncomfortable around people who like more crafty options, even taking verbal shots at them. It really gets under peoples skin when they do that to me, and they have on several occasions and I just and always respond with "I don't care what you drink or eat"and Don't spar Back and forth with them......just my experience..... Don't agree with the binary thing at all....,.

What did I just read? Honestly. The last opinion I look to when it comes to what beer to drink to enjoy is the one coming from BOH. I will, however, listen to their opinion on drugs.

I didn't read the article because it seemed to be a click bait type of article by the writer just to rustle some people's. But I can tell you albeit not seriously, from experience of going through every length of being a fan of beer, to possible snob to getting certifications and working in a brewery that after all I find myself just enjoying the classics. Ex: Pilsner Urquell, Sam Smith. And I've stopped following hype like sours and barrels. I just enjoy what I enjoy. Due to unforseen circumstances I drink FAR less than in the past and can't try everything anymore so I stick to favorites.

I'm as big a music fan as anyone, but I never heard of"rockism" until this article. But if the author stands by his music analogy, then who am I to argue - I love metal, and do not give two shits who cares. I love good beer and do not give two shits who cares. The minute I start justifying my enjoyment of anything for the sake of popular opinion, feel free to shoot me.
