Crew, 2 quick questions: 1) I have a couple btls of batch 297 Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza -- how old is this? I opened one a few weeks ago (unwittingly) and it was DELICIOUS, but I hadn't had it before and couldn't compare to fresh... 2) I also found deep in the cellar a 2009 Double Dead Guy Ale, WTF!! Any word on this guy? Not sure if I open it or trade it?? Historically not a big Rogue fan, so not losing my mind to try it, but a 3 year old strong ale could be kinda fun...thoughts? I'll repost this in Great Lakes or another forum if I don't hear anything, but wanted to run it by my hometown peeps first... Thanks!
This would probably be best to ask the folks in the "Cellaring/Aging" forum. They've got all the info you need over there.
I too have had fairly old bottles of Jolly Pumpkin, and I gotta say those beers are great from the gate and onward. When I see >1-year-old bottles on the shelf, I get a little wobbly in the knees
I just saw a few bottles of the Maracaibo Especial bottled in Oct/Nov 2010...I may pick them up. The fresh one I just had was world class. God is Jolly Pumpkin a gem that is SO often overlooked...
Don't get too excited about the '09 DD Guy Ale. I still see it with some regularity on the shelves, along with several of the XS line up of similar vintages.
Yeah, but does that mean it's bad or that people just don't know what it is / don't want some old a$$ Rogue I'm so confused...I guess just drinking it and reporting back is the only solution!
I had an '09 2x dead guy maybe 6months ago. I found it to be delicious. There is plenty of it around too.
If you want, save that other Oro for an upcoming JP tasting I plan on hosting. It would fit well in the fun and games.
Done. I think I expressed interest on your JP tasting thread...sounds like a good time. I can't get an answer on how old it is, but I think it's probably 3-ish years old. Like I said, the one I had was solid!
