What do you do with large hauls?

When I say large hauls, I mean multiple cases of beer. For example, when people pick up multiple cases of Heady, SoS, 10+ bottles of Hill Farmstead, etc all in one trip. Do people drink them all themselves? Trade? I just can't imagine drinking that much beer in a "short" time period when some would be concerned with IPA freshness.

My suspicion: tradebait (or black market merchandise)

I haven't picked up multiple cases of beer without the intent to share it personally (i.e. bring to a party, give to friends, whatever), but thus far I have only done so with Vermont IPAs that I don't want to sit on too long. I'm hoping to nail down a couple of cases of Xocoveza, in which case I will still definitely give some away but also probably use some to trade since I know it likely won't suffer if it sits for a few months.

Great question I have always wodered this. I understand hauls of stouts, saison, etc that last long...But IPA's that fall of so fast. How do people drink it all so fast?

i've done the multiple cases of heady, two times, and they were for personal consumption and to share with friends. my wife helped me, friends loved getting a few cans, and i had no problem getting through a couple cases in less than two months. I also once bought two cases of hoof hearted's south of eleven. traded two four packs and drank the rest myself. i don't like when i see people buying on speculation of trading it away when there are limits, but it seems to be the norm now. my general rule of thumb is to drink what i can consume, and leave the rest for others.

In my case, I don't even bother acquiring such hauls, because I don't have tons of friends who share my taste in beer, I don't have a regular bottle share I need to wow in order to stay invited to (largely due to my taste in beer and subsequent lack of interest in any such endeavor where people as a general rule want to show off their latest hoppy beer acquisition), and trading is way too much effort and expense for a return that's only marginally - if at all - better than beer I can get with minimal effort.

For example, as of right now, I can go out and pick up as much Wulver as I want, no line, no waiting. That's every day of my life. I'm all set not buying a case of it at a time. If I move, as has been impending to Des Moines as soon as my girlfriend finds work out there (I work from home, so my job goes with me), then r/Wulver/<name of beer that's rare outside where I move to, but sits on the shelf there year-round, and is at least 90% as good if not better than any other beer in the same category available anywhere else>.

Bury my head in my hands and weep tears of guilt.

But seriously, any time I've done this (VT trip to get a case from numerous breweries + HF), its always to trade a bunch. Usually with people who I've set something up with prior to going.

Two 4-packs from each brewery is what I am to keep for myself.

I buy the beers that I want to drink, so that's it, I drink it. When I have company I share of course, but I don't buy it for the purpose of sharing. I don't travel out of state for beer that is not available locally, so if someone else wants something they can simply go out and buy it, they don't need me to buy it for them. I don't do trades, I'm not a ticker.

Haven't personally gotten cases before but if I did it would be primarily to drink for me, trade/gift some, and, style permitting, store a couple.

Generally, I'll keep a case which I can kill in a couple weeks if I'm motivated. Then, I'm a member of relatively large local facebook groups of beer geeks. I could easily move 10 cases of a highly valued beer like Heady in a week among those groups if I wanted to put forth the effort. I'd be shocked if, in your local areas, there weren't similar groups. I'm in Cincinnati and one group is very active with over 2,500 in it.

Funny that, just did that, and surprisingly it wasn't VT. I usually do a little trading, a little cellaring, and lots of IPA consumption (which I am doing now). I also give a fair amount to friends.
