I like Lucky 13, but it didn't hold a candle to the Imperial Red for my palate and preferences. LOVED the Impy Red!

Have sporadically seen Hop Rod Rye and Red Rocket over the past few years. Nothing routine, but I've grabbed both when they've been out.

Like Blazing World, but found Aurora even more to my liking. Miss them both, though the current Nelson-recipe Blazing World is good too...just lesser enjoyed than the original recipe.

I always looked forward to Odell’s Runoff Red.

I drink this style when I find it and I am rarely disappointed. Like the black IPA, I hope to see red IPAs more in the future.

If it wasn't for Hoppy Reds/Red IPAs who knows how long it would have taken me to work my way up to being the hop head I am today. Rogue's' St. Rogue Red, Green Flash's Hop Head Red, and a local Sequoia's Big Horn Red IPA helped me build up my palate.

As beers are moving to more and more aggressive hopping and malt character recedes further and further into the background it kind of undermines the Amber and Brown ale styles. You get to a point where the only distinguishing feature amber and brown ales have compared with an IPA is the color.

They really are styles meant to balance hop and malt character not to be hopped like an IPA. A balanced beer is nice but the idea of shelling out IPA prices for one doesn’t sit well

I like Modern Times beers, problem here is freshness, if it close to 30 days I’ll buy. But that’s rare.

Some brut from the West coast came along and gave them a black eye. Things got hazy from there.

I had one that was sitting in my basement for the last 6-7 weeks and I didn’t mind it one bit! I might get more because hoppy malty is impossible to find.

About 10 years ago, Bell's stopped brewing their batch series at Batch 10,000. Shortly after that (2012) they released a beer called This One Goes To 11. It was an Imperial Red IPA that drew raves at the time. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/85819/ I thought it had been retired but it looks like it was released again in 2020 judging from the dates on the last reviews, and I missed seeing it. Hopefully it will show up again.

(I just looked at Bell's website and it is listed as a beer in Larry's Library, which I think means we could see it again.)

Arrogant bastard isn't listed as such but certainly fits the bill on all fronts. Deep ruby red and intensely piney alongside heavy caramel malty-ness... it's pretty much the measuring stick of what a red ipa should be.

I agree...Hop Head Red was worthy of several repeats. I still remember sampling it at the brewery for the first time.

Stonecloud Brewing out of OKC just released a Red IPA called Pretty Boy Floyd. First one I’ve seen on the shelves in a while.

GFHHR was a real statement beer. One of those was a beauty and a reminder of the diversity of beer types and flavors.. A hard dry amber like beer could hit the spot like no other.....Drink less drink more...

Moonlight brews Twist of Fate a few times a year. I picked it up sometime last year and it was a delicious time machine to tasty, malty red ales of yore.
