Tends to be my philosophy as well. For one of my recent trades, I was sending some FFF Zombie Dust & I also included a couple cans of Half Acre Daisy Cutter (want) and a FFF pint glass from the brewpub since he mentioned in his info that he collects glassware. Not to mention he'd be drinking his ZD in style. In my last trade, I traded another sixer of ZD and Lord Admiral Nelson with a first-time trader who never had anything from FFF. Seeing it was his first trade and never had FFF, I included some more Half Acre, but also included a bomber of Dreadnaught, which I consider to be one of FFF's best brews. I wanted his first trade experience to be very positive and it also gave me an opportunity to share some great beers from my area that aren't available where he resides.

I see extras as a great opportunity to share great beer that is unavailable to the other BA's who share my love of great craft beer.

I always send a few extras - the number dictated by the size of the trade. The bigger the trade, the more extras I throw in. Typically send locals from Real Ale, Indepence, St. Arnold, Freetail and Ranger Creek - stuff I know most people haven't tried yet.

Damn. I wonder if you got some from a bad batch. I think it's pretty damn good and hangs with some of the better RISs I've had. It has 90-exceptional/4.03 rating on BA - so alot of people think it's pretty good. I've traded alot of the Vampire Slayer - which people seem to want over the Unidragon - and I don't think it comes close to Unidragon.

-I disagree- but I think Unidragon will be great with a little age.

-I try to always send MBC Lunch, Peeper or Zoe depending on whats available.

I'm gonna do a side by side with the VS, Uni and the Choc. Sombrero in the coming weeks. I still think I'll like the Unidragon the best, but it'll be fun to taste them together for comparative purposes.

I've never had Choc Sombrero but would be interested in hearing what you find. I thought the Uni was a little "hot" and could benefit from a little age.

I try to include stuff that will make someone's day. I've thrown in Rare, CBS, KBS, Bourbon County, Dark Lord, Zombie Dust, Dreadnaught, Upland lambics, Gilgamesh, Arctic Panzerwolf, Curmudgeons Better Half, and many others.

I tend to throw in 4-5 bottles unless one of the extras is particularly valuable.

I usually fill up whatever box I'm sending, minus packing. If it's smaller I'll throw in some tougher to find stuff, if it's a bigger box I'll throw in quite a few bottles. Beer karma's the name of the game with extras anyhow.

If I'm trading with someone out east, Deschutes is the easy go to. Black Butte and Obsidian Stout are always in my fridge and I love sharing these. I did an Abyss once with a good partner. It's tough when cash is limited. Luckily between Deschutes and whatever the excellent but totally under the radar Bitter Root Brewing has as a seasonal at the time I'm usually set. I try to send at least one completely local beer in every box. There are several good brews from Missoula MT that no one has ever heard of because there isn't anyone to talk about them. I try to send those. Red Dread by Bitter Root, for example. Or their Single Hop Pale.

When I lived in Chicago my go to was Daisy Cutter. I'd send a can or two of that plus something else I was drinking at the time. I've included Founders Nemesis, the FFF DIPAs, etc. There, with all kinds of access to all kinds of beers people have heard about, it was easy to fill wants.

Best extra I ever got was an oversized wineglass from headyglassdotcom labelled Heady Beer Drinker. I use it every day.

I try to include some of their wants. If I do not have any available, I always ask for their favorite styles of beer, then try to make sure I include atleast 1 or 2 bottle from their favorite style, and then some good locals that I really like which wouldn't be available in their area. Lately I have been including alot of Zombie Dust, and even some Westy 12 because I have a lot of it on hand. I never try to think of it in terms of dollar value. Pretty much I try to fill up the box. I always try to be as generous as possible as I like the feeling when someone messages me with how happy they are with the trade.

I usually throw in a bunch of stuff not available in my trade partners area. If I have limited space in a shipper, I might just throw 1 really cool or limited extra.

This. A recent trade for some Alpine netted me both a Heady Topper and Abrasive. Another trade netted me a Hopslam and Dreadnaught. All unsolicited, from pretty standard trades. These guys are definitely people I would trade with again, just because of the extras

If I add extras (international trades often agree no extras) I try to make sure it is something the other person cannot get and will give them a nice surprise when they open the box. I have thrown in Westy's, Pannepot Grand Reserva and Cuvee Delphine and my next box will contain a great sour (cannot give the name as it will spoil the surprise).
That said I have received even better extras - Zombie Dust, Baller Stout and Apocalypse Cow :grinning:

I usually try to hit some wants first if possible then include local and/or out of their distribution beer and homebrew to fill up the box. A lot of times the locals will be a few extras out of a sixer I just bought.

I'll occasionally regift extras, but only if it's on their wants or is a style I don't like but they do. Sometimes I get extras from Founders etc. that I can get anytime so I usually pass them along to someone who can't.
