Has anyone noticed a taste difference from last years Noble Pils? When it was seasonal it was delicious but as soon as they made it year-round, it tastes more like a slightly hoppy macro lager.

If you drink a lot of APAs and IPAs, it is you and your tastes that have changed not the beer. Give up strong hop flavored beers for a couple of weeks and then try another Noble Pils and see what you think.

I didn't find it to be too great last year, but a few weeks ago when I picked up a fresh 6, I thought it was very tasty.

You aren't mistaking the Noble Pils with the Imperial Pils that was out a couple years back, are you? I was... :flushed:

I get a macro-ish taste off of the noble pils, alpine spring and the summer seasonal.

What exactly is a macro-ish taste?...

I associated a "macro-ish taste" to thin/watery mouthfeel, along with overall flavors that seem muted/unoffensive/dull, perhaps even a slightly metallic finish.

Having said that I've been impressed with Alpine Spring/Summer/Noble in the last few weeks.

Strangely, my local beer stores in Jersey have not even gotten Noble Pils yet this year! I had to drive up to Boonton to get some. I thought they tasted exactly like they did last year- delicious.

I inquired with the brewery and they strongly affirmed that it is unchanged.

My memory could be off, but I thought it had a more assertive earthy/herbal/green hop quality in years past that is tame this time.

While I don't doubt that the recipe is unchanged. I can envision the possibility that seasonal hop yields vary along with the individual hop's AA and oil content thus possibly leading to a less pronounced "earthy/herbal/green hop quality."

Thin mouthfeel, tastes of corn and a bit of metal. It could be a product of the beers I normally drink but the three brews I mentioned ,to me, taste closer to an AAL than to anything I would typically choose to imbibe.

Sounds plausible to me. It was more green back then and I loved it.

It's still refrigerator-worthy, as far as I'm concerned.

Your taste buds likely changed over the last year more than the beer did.

Why, why, why would you go out of your way to get the Noble when you have 3 of the greatest Pils' ever in your backyard? Sly Fox, Victory and Stoudts are all far better Pils' in my opinion, just drink those.

Didn't get any of those characters, other than the body being lighter than your average IIPA or Imperial Stout, of course. But just about right for Pilsner or Helles.

I had a few Noble Pils beers this year. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the 2012 version of Noble Pils is less hoppy then the previous years versions. And it is not due to my tastes changing for this beer.

I will try Noble Pils again later in the year. I suspect that the lower hoppiness may be due to a batch variation.

Keith has the ‘right answer’ though: drink Sly Fox Pikeland Pils, Victory Prima Pils, Stoudt’s Pils and Troegs Sunshine Pils.

    Cheers!
