I like Modern's BA stout options quite a bit if they have some to offer while you're there - i have found the rest of the beer to be...fine. It's a great space, and I've had brunch there, which was awesome, so the food is very good. It has a lot going for it and overall you won't be disappointed with a trip there. I think I personally like the beer at 2nd Shift a smidge more, but they're very comparable product wise.

Modern's food is the best brewery food in town. Loud space and large, but not a bad way to spend an hour.

Thai food I would highly recommend Chiang Mai or Chao Baan.

Modern’s pizza is fantastic. I would put their IPA’s above 2nd shift. Don’t care for Citrapolis though.

Speaking of 2nd Shift, don’t think I’ve seen an IPA priced at $1/oz like they are doing with their BKS collab. Pretty disappointing to pay 6$ for a 6oz pour.

I do want to visit 2nd Shift and Civil Life again, but I'm leaning towards just ordering an Uber to my hotel from the Zwanze day shenanigans and traveling by foot for the rest of the evening. If I end up ordering a ride anywhere, it'll probably be to 2nd Shift. I really enjoy their beers, but going to 2nd Shift for some BA LSD is probably about as bad of an idea for my wallet and liver as wandering to Side Project Cellar after drinking for hours at Zwanze day, lol.

Oof. That's a tough price point. BKS is one of my favorite breweries, especially with them being so close, but I'd have a tough time paying for that.

I'm a 2nd Shift fan, and I have no issue with it. It's one of the best IPAs I've had in STL. I was crushed when they told me they sold the last 4-pack on Sunday.

I don't have any Thai suggestions but how about a burger?

If you're walking to Modern you might as well stop at Mac's Local Eats and have their burger. Arguably the best in STL. We rotate between Mac's and Nomad, also worth a stop. Downtown Dogtown.

I'm a big fan of Modern. Mansions & Benzes is in my fridge. Get it whenever it's released. And, Motueka is the latest in their single hop series. Haven't tried it yet but they're all good.

Kings Oak? We found what we like and that's the Birria fries. The sandwiches aren't for us. Sorta bready.

PostScript Great news on the STL pub front. Dressel's Pub is back!!! An institution. Also in a cool part of the city, the Central West End. Across the street from PI Pizzeria and Left Bank Books.

I'm certainly not opposed to a good burger! What kind of burger style are they? Smash burgers?

My GF doesn't like Thai food, so I was scheming on using the trip to try some different Thai food, but I'm certain a double or triple burger would hit the spot well after Zwanze Day.

Macs is smash burgers and they are great.

Get the RIP Fries if you go. Even better than the burgers imo. Which are great

Mac's Classic burger with three patties. Great burger. One of the best I've ever had! They let me sample a few Civil Life brews. Will 100% come back here.

Glad you liked Mac's. Civil Life is certainly top notch, as per. Went there last week and had the Porter and a UK IPA. Just really interesting stuff.

I'll pitch Nomad again. Right up there with Mac's. Connected to the Tamm Ave bar which has a very groovy game room and tap list.

Finally tried Motueka from the Modern single hop series and it didn't disappoint. It was very interesting. I don't mean that in a polite way. It was good and interesting.

Modern's new patio. The beautiful Forest Park and the Science Center in the distance.

So potentially making the trip out to side project and the area.

Sorry if this has been asked but any helpful info for a newb coming into town? Any lodging, food, sights to be seen suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Probably be sometime early August, any pros or cons visiting during that time?

For places to stay, Maplewood doesn't have a vibrant hotel scene, but Brentwood has three nice-ish Marriot properties to choose from. Clayton has a few spots as well. Brentwood is easy to grab an Uber or even walk.to/from the Brewery.

As an outsider, my food choices are probably inconsistent with what locals love, but I try to hit Balkcan Treat Box every trip. Other highlights include Ted Drewes, Menya Rui, Bogarts, Adam's, Salt & Smoke, Gioia's, and Louis. Near the Cellar/Brewery, BLTMKT is great, Bolyards too, and Living Room for coffee.

Go to Balkan Treat Box. Laumeier Sculpture Park is good place to spend an afternoon.
