Im not happy because it looks like Lidle has replaced a good quality German beer with a cheaper version called Perlenbacher which isnt even brewed in Germany but France instead

Believe it or not, someone brought this up earlier. We're talking about Perlenbacher's pilsner, I assume? I realize it's probably more expensive, but Rothaus would be a nice alternative. Is Rothaus available in the UK?

    Grafenwalder ?

    *cringe*

It's a typical chainstore golem, brought to undead life by advertisement but lacking anything even remotely resembling a soul. Stuff like that should come with a warning label. Although, being sold by Lidel should be warning label enough...

Haha! It is funny because it is true. I did buy Grafenwalder when I was to young to buy beer because it was sold at Lidl. You should go to a different store and buy better German beer.

Grafenwalder Hefe Weissbier (Weißbier) was one of the best beers I have drank. It introduced me to the wonderful world of wheat beers. I noticed the EAN number in Finland is the same as for the new Perlenbacher (4 304493 256026).

It seems like the older I get the stronger tastes I like as the number of lingual papillae decreases or something. The best wheat beer so far I have tasted is Weihenstephaner Vitus Weizenbock, by the way.

Perlenbacher is just a new brand name. It does not come from France, but is brewed at TCB in Frankfurt (Oder), which is a French company. TCB also made Grafenwalder in the past.
In West Germany, Lidl has some other breweries to supply beer, just to keep transport cost low.
