I just put a beer on tap and will probably only be through about half of it when we throw a Christmas party later this month. I am kicking around the idea of removing the keg, throwing it on the patio on a hand pump, letting everyone finish the barrel, to allow me to toss a new barrel in the fridge. Are there any negative implications when removing a barrel from the fridge on c02 and switching it to a hand pump (other than the fact that the beer will have to be polished off within a day or two)? I need to have both beers on tap that night, and the last thing I want to do is throw a brand new barrel on a hand pump!

There are no problems with that, just untap it and do what you want to.

+ pressure is in the barrel. I'd check for leaks when I disconnect (Maybe the homebrewer in me) and you should be good to go at Christmas.

with a hand pump you will oxygenate your beer, so finish the keg off!

Nope, no issues. Took it off of CO2, threw it out on the patio. We just about killed it on Saturday night. Sunday morning, I went to put beer into a a container to throw in the fridge for later that evening. It spit out about a liter of beer and was dead. So, I'm very happy. New barrel in the fridge and was about four glasses away from killing the other keg that night!

...and bigk84, yeah I'm well aware of the oxygenation issue with a hand pump. You've got about 36-74 hours before the beer is completely ruined! I learned that the hard way tapping a keg a few days early before tailgating. Will never make that mistake again!
