Most of the guys in my fantasy football league are diehard Bud drinkers. Whenever I show up at the draft each year with a nice assortment of craft beers they make fun of me for bringing what they refer to as "flower beers." When they offer me a Budwater, I politely tell them "No thanks, I only drink beer!"

I love yuengling...everything except their light and chesterfield and im not ashamed of it...I love some good imperial porters and stouts from craft breweries but yuengling is my go to and I wont touch anything from another MAcro brewer unless its free and nothing else to drink

What does it matter if you love KBS or you love Coors Light? You're a beer-lover either way, right? It's all basically the same stuff.

I have recently dived into the craft beer wave and have been learning while enjoying over 60 great craft beers so far; maybe more. My fiancé is allergic to brewers yeast so she just listens to my enjoyment. She has been called a beer snob at work because she has learned so much from my experiences that she can join into beer conversations. Has this ever happened to you? maybe with a friend that doesn't drink craft beer but has listened to you go on and on about different styles, breweries, etc.

My sister, she doesn't drink alcohol but she gets my beer from her local beer shop. She even has a beer guy! I don't even have a beer guy! Every time she goes into the store the employees know her and save good stuff for her. In the end it all gets shipped to me but I'm jealous of her.

I've always been pretty conscious about walking the fine line between "snob" and "enthusiast." To me, a snob is one for whom enthusiasm for beer is projected onto other people; for the snob, beer becomes not just about personal exploration and social connections, but also about what everyone else is drinking, and what that says about their taste. For beer "snobs," I imagine beer is far less enjoyable than for your general enthusiast who revels in trying new beers, sharing their experiences (and beer!) with others, and finds the overall beer scene to be an extension of a lively social life.

Of course, I'm just throwing some thoughts around on a forum. But I know that a soon as I start talking about beer or treating its pursuit in a way that might be alienating to friends and family, I'm crossing the line into snob land.

I'm a snob in the sense that if I walk into a restaurant, and they only have stuff like BMC/Blue Moon/Newcastle, I'll order a cocktail.

I'll also think the place is stupid..

I'm not sure your fiancé is a snob. But I do like the idea for a thread of beer enthusiasts who don't drink beer.

Nothing wrong with snobbery in most forms, as far as I'm concerned. Watch out for the craft beer proselytizers.

My beer snobbery has paid off in that it has enlightened more than a few former BMC friends into becoming fellow beer admirers. Snob on!

I always leaned against that one because it isn't necessarily a flattering one... might as well call the same person a dork or a nerd. Also I think it disrespects the real geeks out there who really, really are into the technical stuff with brewing, nosing, tasting etc. and pretty much on par with any professional in the industry.

A beer snob is someone who describes a brew as "having a mild taste of candied plums..."

I have yet in my life to encounter a "candied plum" and would not necessarily ingest one if I did. We need to speak in a common language when reviewing or commenting on beers...and by god, the beer brewing mags need to lighten up on the chemistry lessons in every article...or provide the periodic table in the centerfold of every third issue.

I don't consider 'Beer Snob' a bad thing... There is so much great craft beer readily available these days, why would I drink the BMC generic stuff?
I am a snob because I have prejudiced towards shitty beer for my own consumption, however, I don't critique others for drinking BMC beer. Especially because some wild ales I drink taste like rotten cherries filtered through musty barnyard hay and they cost >$10/bottle... that is a tough thing to explain/defend to the non BA.
